pull cord wont pull, seems to be jammed briggs and stratton 500 series
Pull the spark plug out and see if it isnt hydro locked. Someone might have overfilled the oil or the carb float may have stuck open and filled the intake with gas!
If the recoil is still stuck you can remove it from the mower and try it without any load on it. Still stuck? The unit might be rusted solid!
You can spray a little penetrating oil into it but be careful.....the oil will soak the pull cord which should be cleaned and degreased immediately following using the penetrating oil.

need repair manual for briggs and stratton 4.5 hp on bolen lawn mower model 11a-414e765
After a very extensive cross reference session your engine is model number
10H902-0285-E1 (not provided by you so it took a while)
Your engine is covered in this repair manual:
http://www.mymowerparts.com/pdf/Briggs_&_Stratton_Service_and_Repair_Manuals_Spec_Charts/270962%20Single%20Cylinder%20L-Head%20BRIGGS%20&%20STRATTON.pdf
If there is a problem that your having I can help you if you would just elaborate. I could save you lots of time. The 2 most common failures of this engine is on the carburetor. The parts that fail are the diaphragm (Item 394) and the primer bulb (Item 976) of this link:
http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=briggs_and_stratton&mn=10H902-0285-E1&dn=57160004
Carb data is in section 3 of the first link.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly.

What is the magneto gap for a 6HP Briggs & Stratton 12H802 series engine?
Briggs lists it as .006 - .010 on this 6 HP L-head engine. The .010 width can easily be attained by using a standard sized business card as a feeler gauge (and it doesn't stick to the magnets in the flywheel). I double up the card, loosen the coil and let the magnets in the flywheel draw the pickup legs in until they press on the card, tighten up the retaining screws (threadlocker is optional) and your air gap is set.

No gas getting to heads on engine. Have replaced the fuel pump with three separate ones, had the carburetor ultra-sonic cleaned, I replaced the plastic needle valve with a brass valve because the plastic, per John Deere, was known to swell during heat and cut off the gas. I can take the carb off and spray starting fluid, drip gas straight into, etc. the head ports and it will stay running. When I pull the fuel line exiting the fuel pump there is a trickle of gas but it isn't a strong shooting stream, but this is with all three fuel pumps that I have tried. Like I said, the carb has been cleaned. The hoses have been checked for internal swelling and restriction due to ethanol enriched gasoline. What gives? It will run for about 5 seconds and die...unless you spray starting fluid or drip gas into the intakes. It's a 23 hp Briggs and Stratton motor on a John Deere Z425 54" EzTrack. I'm at the end of my rope with this engine!!!
time to pull the hose off the fuel pump coming from the tank and drain the tank and check flow of gas coming from tank hose, and possibly inline fuel filter is plugged or there is junk in your tank/line from tank not letting enough fuel to run to pump so pump can pump it to carb !

how do I adjust a throttle on a briggs and stratton engine?
If it the simple handle type throttle cable..push it to full tbottle and follow the cable to the carb..you should fund a small clamp that hold the cable in position..jus loosen and adjust the carb throttle to full throttle and tighten..then push it back to idle to make sure it Idles if not adjust the clamp again until you reach both throttle and idle..good luck..
