I have a yamaha htr

You can do it, you would just need a Pre-amp for the mic to work without major feedback. They range in price from 50 and up. An inexpensive PA system would be a better way to do this. You can find decent ones for personal use for under 300 that are well built and come with a mic. Check www.Zsounds.com, They have something for any price range. Hope this helps

How do I hook up a non powered sub woofer on my htr-5630?

You will need an amplifier or 2 channel receiver. Hook the sub out rca jack to the rca inputs on this new amp or receiver and hook the speaker terminals on sub to speaker terminals on same amp or receiver. Your Yamaha receiver doesn't have any power for a passive sub.Just pick up any old fairly high powered receiver for fifty dollars and you're good to go.I use old dolby pro logic receivers as they are a dime a dozen today. Good luck.

My yamaha reciever has a power problem in that

As long as you're sure the power cord is firmly plugged in, it sounds like the protection circuitry of the unit has likely been activated. This happens when there is a short circuit in one of the connections. Check your speaker wiring connections and make sure all of them are firmly and carefully grounded (i.e. the copper of the wire touches nothing but the proper terminal, and that the wires do not touch each other). Check the connections on the speakers as well. If protection circuitry is the result of a shock or power surge (lightning, strong static, etc.), you can reset it. Turn it to standby mode, unplug it, wait for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.

I have a Yamaha HTR5630 receiver. Can I hook up

Sure thing. You need just need an adapter cable; one end looks like a headphone plug (1/8" male plug), and the other is RCA (one red, one white). Then just plug the RCA end into one of your audio component inputs (I use CD, you could use aux or whatever you like) and you're good to go!
