Yamaha RX-V1400 Receiver Questions & Answers
I have a Yamaha RX-V1400 AV Receiver and would like to pair with Technics SL-1300 turntable and pair of JAMO speakers. How do I proceed?
Having looked at the manual it says you can connect the turntable via the phono jacks at the back, with the earth wire to the earth terminal. It's likely you have a magnetic cartridge that needs amplification. But if you put it into the jacks as it stands, it will soon become clear if you need a magnetic cartridge pre-amp. For if you have to really turn up the volume to hear it, then you need one. But if the deck plays at normal level to everything else then you don't.
As this is a multi channel receiver you will need more than just two speakers! You can connect the Jamo ones to the front right and left settings. If they are only 6ohms you have to set the speaker setting to 6ohms before useing them.
The unit probably has a setting to just use the front speakers if you just want to use them only. But I suspect it will have an All Channel Stereo setting you can use. Then all the speakers will work and it will give you a much bigger sound.
Protection mode
Try tapping it on the top or sides with your hand or fist, I was told this buy a body of mine, That has been a (Electronic) Tech for over 20 years now, Tap it fairly hard,It has work for me with recievers And amps to get them out of the (Protection mode. What causes them to go into (Protect) Is a short in a speaker lead or the speaker wire come disconected some how,Or there could of been a power surge.
Power cords are plugged in
Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.
Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.
You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.
If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.
If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.
I have alwayws liked yamaha prod. . i bought a
First things first... Disconnect all speakers from the receiver and then turn it on. If it still shuts off, there is an internal issue, if it stays on, its an external issue. Post a reply with your results and I can help you with great detail if needed. Hope this helps.
Comcast remote
The volume keys should be working by default, but you may have volume punch through turned on (meaning the remote is sending signals for TV or CABLE volume function no matter what mode you are actually on). To unlock volume control for AUX mode, do the following:
1. Press and release AUX
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 993
4. Press and release VOL-
The remote should blink four times to confirm unlock.
Volume when on tuner is very different than when on DTV
Under the input menu, there is a volume trim function which allow you to increase or decrease the volume level of each input. It is designed so that the volume of different components can be matched to prevent a blast of sound when changing to a lounder output. You can increase the alevel of the dtv input, and decrease the level of the tuner. Tuner volumes are usually high.
Yamaha RX-V1400 receiver powers off, in case it becomes louder
Hey, yeah that can be frustrating.
When you turn it up do you hear the relay or a clicking sound, then you turn it on and it comes back below the +2db?
Try unplugging All the speaker wires from the unit. Turn on the unit and listen for the click.
after the click, turn it up past the 2+ db mark and see if you hear it click or shut down. If it did not click off, then suspect a shorted crossover on one of your speakers.
2nd test is to plug in One speaker, and test it at high volume, it will not harm it. If it shuts off disconnect that speaker and try another. Only one at a time.
If it works at high volume, you need to isolate one of your speakers and i bet it has a shorted crossover that has been cooked. P.S. If one is bad, suspect they will fail at a later date.
If they all fail, use a friends speaker and try it before sending it to a repair shop.
P.S. i found one on ebay i think you can get for under $100 bucks in the box.
