How do i hook a

You CAN drive the power amps from the main amp inout jacks BUT the rest of the inout of the 8600 would be dead then. You can connect the L and R from the FX24 to either the media RCA jacks or into the channel9/10 jacks. FOr the latter, use TRS cables. Leave the two selection buttons in the up position.

Check the caps in the PSU, these give out over time although not normally when used regularly. You may be lucky and be able to see one or more with bulging tops. If you can replace them and all MAY be OK. Whilst in there check for any visible signs of anything burnt or blown. If it looks too bad or there is nothing obvious it's a trip to the repair shop for certain.

Power surged at a gig last night amp would power up but hummed .now it wont power up at all

This is a serious mistake and one starting point could be checking your power supply capacitors, certainly they will be out, thing is if this is the only components that got fried or the issue goes beyond and reaches power amp module, let me know furthermore.

Periodic cutting out of main amp

Check proper impedance speakers, as this amplifier's minimum impedance should be 4 Ohm, check for the proper fan operation and free air flow thru the entire power amplifier section, hope this helps.

I have a peavey 8600. will it run a pair of 600w

Hello,This is the amp capacity, 600W @4 Ohm, so you just have to drive them below full power to avoid excessive distortion, but certainly you will play a bit loud.

How can you tell if a fuse is blown on a XR 8600 power amp by peavey?

The fuse is probably placed near the power cable entrance in the power amp.Pick it up from it's placing dock and look for the wire inside. If the wire is whole, the fuze is fine, however, if the wire inside the fuze is missing or burned, the fuze needs to be replaced.

Can you run a powered mixer without a speaker load

Yes. The only thing the power does is power the speaker outputs. (Main out) or (aux out if available) so if u want to just use the headphone jack or whatever it is your doing your not going to hurt the mixer by turning it on without speakers connected to it. Q: What is it that u are doing?

Why does the 1.6amp fuse blow when the amplifier is switched on?

The owners manual shows a AC fuse for the 8300 as 8amp / 250 volts but doesn't show an external fuse holder for the 8600d. It's unlikely that the 8300 would use a 8amp and your 8600 a 1.6 amp. Double check your original fuse values.http://www.peavey.com/products/index.cfm/item/701/117405/XR%26nbsp%3B8600D

I'm using the Peavey XR

DO NOT parallel more than two 8 ohm speakers on either output and you will be OK. You could also use one speaker on each output. That would be easier on the equipment as it would be an 8 ohm load on each instead of a 4 ohm load on one of the internal amps. If you want to drive stage minitors, then you existing setup is fine and you will connect the monitors to the second speaker output and set the Mon switch as MAIN/MON.

The speaker connections are on the BACK and are "Speakon" connectors... These are special plugs and these apparently can also accept 1/4 inch plugs. It appears that the MINIMUM impedance should be no less than 4 ohms, NOT 2 ohms. One of the back connectors is for the mains, the other ois for the monitor soeakers. The FRONT connections are line level which doi NOT drive speakers,
