What powers carburetor solenoid on a craftsman model 316.711200 weed wacker

The power source comes from the ignition module(coil), Power is stepped down internally in ignition module to something between 9v and 18v(can't remember exact voltage for sure at this time). I don't recall seeing one on that model go bad. usually it ends up being the carburetor. Or incorrect spark plug that is the culprit(If cylinder is O.K. and you have spark). Hope this helps.

What will cause newish sears 27cc string trimmer only run on full choke?

If the trimmer has been sitting for a long time it is probably the carb needs to be rebuilt. Before doing that check the plug and be sure you are getting fire. Be sure nothing is blocking the fuel filter in the tank. Be sure exhaust or muffler is not plugged, with only 5 hours on the trimmer I wouldn't think that is the problem. Sound more like something in the carb. You can look on you tube to see how to rebuild the carb if you have not done it in the pass it is fairly simple to do.

No spark

To test the spark you will need a spark plug tester. Put one end of the tester on the spark plug and the other in the plug wire. Pull the cord and see if fire is there. If not you will need to replace the coil.

Testing ignition coil on a weedwacker

Be awared If you have ordered an ignition coil for your machine do not forget to give the details of the serial number of your trimmer because of marketing technical changes or modified ignition s the flywheel magnet and coil can be have changed so that if you order without giving up the details it goes oft wrong and it will give by the unknown people no spark anymore if not is order the right part or the combi flywheel with ignition coil together ,other way a great change that you dont have not the right fitting flywheel for the new ignition coil. Also use a new sparkplug .and some equivalents to try.

Managemylife.com sears

You need three things. Spark, compression and fuel. Pull the spark plug and make sure it is not fouled and you have spark when cranking. Put your finger over the spark plug hole and feel for compression while pulling the engine over. There is a reed valve between carb and block that clogs and prevents fuel from getting to cylinder.
