If the display is displaying what the heater thinks the water temperature is then there is likely a problem in the water temperature sensor or the board that reads it. I would be prepared to take the heater apart to measure values with a volt/ohm meter before calling the Sta Rite technical support number at 888-782-7483. They should be able to help you figure out what part is malfunctioning.
Please let me know how this turns out. Thank you.

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.
While it may be possible to walk you thru diagnosing the problem and perhaps fixing it are you sure you want to delay the repairs in such a way given the temperatures you are in?
Are you getting an error code or if the unit is an older model, have you opened the cover to see the flashing LED inside? What messages or light flash code are you getting? Does the blower kick? Does it light at all? Please post as many details as possible in a comment to this message.

My spa heater runs for
This is probally a water flow thing. Check your filter and baskets for clean and your impeller for junk in itbu reaching into the pump from the hole behind the basket with long nose pliers. Then ck your by-pass if you have one to be sure it's almost closed. This will be a valve between the intake and outlet pipes. When closed it forces water through the heater. If not any of those you have an internal by-pass in the manifold of the heater itself. This requires breaking the heater down and pulling the manifold off. So get out the book or you may want to get a repairman involved at this point but check the other things first.

Heater will not fire. The failure sequence is: pool on, blower on, water temperature 66 F, service heater led on, then off, heating led blinking and service heater led off, gas valve clicks open, flame starts, then gas valve closes, smells gas, service heater led on and heating led off, pool on led stays on, blower stays on for couple of minutes then off. The leds on the control Board: AGS on, cr24 on, c31 on. Water Pressure Switch (PS) closed, High limit switch (HLS) closed, Air Flow Switch (AFS) closed while trying to fire, then open, Autom?tico Gas Shutoff (AGS) closed. The combinaci?n gas control valve terminals TH and TR closed.
What should I check after this?
