Hi there! Either the buttons are dirty, broke, or damaged in a way that the button is not making contact or the digital circuitry inside has failed. There are no user serviceable parts inside of almost all heaters. You are being advised to not attempt to fix it yourself. Check the power cord for damaged wires. Check for a faulty breaker. Check power going up to the unit...If power stays on up to the unit then you have a short inside the unit someplace.

AFS stands for air flow switch meaning the heater doesn't know if the fan is working. If the fan doesn't turn on, replace the fan. If the fan turns on, replace the tubing to the air flow switch and check the wires to the air flow switch.

It's a reversing cycle to help free it if stuck. It's normal.

Attached is a diagram of this pump. First remove the pump and work backwards until you are able to remove the motor and back cover.

The pump is running at prime speed at start-up. Your highest speed (number on panel) might be much lower than prime. Try setting the rpm for the speed number you select a bit higher. You will need to know how to adjust and lock in the rpm you want.

After 30 minutes of use, feel the outside of the breaker that is tripping. If you feel heat on the surface of the breaker it could be the breaker is going bad. Have an electrician change the breaker and have him check the load on the breaker. My guess is, if the heat pump seems to runs fine for an hour but is tripping a breaker then it is probably not the heat pump.

At 8 years your SFS sensor could be going bad. Changing the sensor is very easy and not very expensive. There is another issue that could be causing your SFS to trip, the heat-exchanger inside the heater could be collecting soot for any number of reasons. Change the sensor first and if your issue is still present call a pro to evaluate and clean your heat-exchanger.

I had same issue yesterday in the field. The sensor was bad in my case. After replacement of the Stack flu sensor my stack temp was only reading 80 degrees, a clear indication that the board needed to be replaced as well. Replaced board and the heater fired fine and the stack temp reading was normal, 300 degrees. To obtain a stack temp, after the heater fires hold down the pool or spa button until the temp appears in the display. It will time out after 10-15 seconds.
