You will need to install a special controller if you change to a 2 speed. Because there will be an additional wire (4 wires vs. 3) with a 2nd speed to operate. If you go with a variable speed motor, then again, a special controller will be required to utilize a reo-stat type of switch with will allow a selection of slowly increasing voltage to motor which will in turn allow the motor to spin quicker. There should be a schematic on that motor describing how to connect the power. You would definitely want to use 230 volts as this allows the motor to run more efficiently.

L1 and L2 are the posts to hook up to, there is no polarity so either way works,

please verify the name plate to be 115 230 volt motor.there will be a schematic that shows you exactly how to hook up this motor depending on the voltage being supplied to it. The main thing is switching between 115 and 230 volts this is a selector switch this very easily forgotten about. Please make sure to check that and double check that to make sure its on the proper selected switch. Good luck

It you either have an impeller problem or capacitor problem on the motor. I would take the capacitor off and take it to a electronic or lexical shop to have them check it. It's only about 15 to 20 dollar pics if it's just your capacitor.

There is a schematic on the motor itself to show you exactly how to hook it up. The main thing is knowing whether it's 115 volt or 230 volt connection. Good luck any questions hit me back up.

Hi, assuming you have 4-conductor wire, use the black and red wires for L1 and L2. It doesn't matter which goes to which. If you do not have a red wire, use black and white. The green or bare wire in a 3-wire cable goes to the ground. If you have 4-conductor wire, the ground wire is the one you used for the GFCI on the breaker--usually the white wire. Usually - depends on the type of wire originally installed. Almost all of it is going to be rated 300V or more and if yours is then yes, change the breaker to a 2-pole and swap out any other devices in the circuit to be rated 230 and change the voltage selector on the pump motor to 230 and you are good to go. Examine the markings on your wire insulation to find the voltage ratings.

The values are stamped on the old capacitors. If you haven't got them, I would contact the manufacturers authorised agent for advice.

remove bump on motor and take picture of wiring before removing get numbers off try electrical supply

Try priming it water at the filter. Make sure that the filter o ring is sealing under the cap. Make sure there is enough water in the pool to enter the suction line and that it is not restricted.

Can't do it electrically. See if you can flip the armature and use that in that direction [bit of a long shot here - sorry]

If your label looks like this one and or if your label dose not have 120 as one of the voltages then you can not run the motor on 115 volts.

Yes this is an old thread but info is still helpful to those that are searching. Here is one diagram from a 3/4 motor. Be aware that most residential high voltage are 240v. This will have the motor turning a bit faster.
