the pump end should be repairable without taking the motor apart ..normally the long bolts that run through the motor housing can be taken out and the pump end serviced without pulling it all apart..send a photo of the pump..

Sounds like a capacitor replacement is needed normally the motor gives a growling sound. The second possibility is the switch to disengage the starting winding is frozen and will not open when the motor rotation starts going.

split the pump and clean the impeller. might have trash in it and this will impede flow, it's a big help to know what brand and model pump when asking.

It sounds like a motor issue. I am not aware of anything in the pump that would cause that condition.

Make sure the main pump is running while the booster is and make sure there is no air in the lines. You may have to open the pump to see if any debris has gotten into the impeller.

Yes you can update your old pump with a new motor with the same specifications. Be sure to match motor type, frame size, Speeds, Amperage in addition to all the other specs. Don't shop for a new motor based on Horse Power use the amperage rating.
