My saw runs great for

There are several things that can cause this problem First if you run it until it quits will it start working again after it cools down. If this is the case the it is shutting off thermal switch on motor. This could be from saw needing cleaned or lubed, make sure chain is not to tight, don't force saw to hard, let it cut at its own pace. Make sure chain is sharp. Anything that causes excessive friction will increase motor temperature. It is possible that thermal switch is about worn out. Hope this helps. Thanks

Chain moves when trying to start

Either the sprocket bearing is dry or has broken up, or the clutch spring has broken, either way you need to remove the side cover, bar and chain, if the drum does not turn freely it is the bearing in the centre giving problems, you should also be able to see the clutch and springs from here, check there condition.

Chain came off

Loosen the bar and if there is an adjustment screw, turn it so the bar moves in the direction of the motor. Slip the chain back into its groove and turn the adjustment screw in the other direction until the chain is at the proper tension. Tighten the bar.

Sharpen chain with an electric sharpener

Hi there,

Having cut a lot of wood when I was younger I know from experience just how important a sharp chain is.You need a guide so all the teeth cut at the same angle. If I were doing it now I would use an outfit like this. You will find that when your out cutting that it won't take much to dull a chain and that cuts in to the sprocket that turns the chain.A sharpe chain will throw big chips whill a dull chain will through out small chips because it's scratching the wood instead of cutting it off.We just used files without guides.I never did get the hang of that But my partner did. This is what I would use today.By the way never use a chain saw alone ,that way you have some one to help you if something goes wrong. I always add this for your information. If this is not the solution that you are looking for please re post because when we pick a question to answer FixYa takes it out of the questions.I am not endorsing this site just the type of tool.

Chain has come off how

The chain drive links may well be damaged now, it may need a new chain, however,if it has a chainbrake make sure this is off by pulling the hand guard fully back to the top handle, wind the chain adjuster fully back, remove the the side cover nut and remove the side cover, push the guide bar fully back, loop the chain over the drive sprocket, and lay it into the guide bar rails ( the cutters on the top bar rail should face away from the saw ), refit the side cover, if the adjuster pawl is in the cover make sure it aligns with the hole in the guide bar, fit the bar nut finger tight, adjust the chain so as it fit snuggly all round the bar, with a gloved hand pull the chain around the bar to ensure it it is sitting in the sprocket and rails properly, re adjust the chain if it has come lose, now fully re tighten the bar nut. If you fit a new chain there will be an amount of initial stretch, so re tention after a few cuts.

Can you help me. My "trigger"

I was able to make my own by going to the local hardware store and buying 2 nylon parts and doing some careful milling/filling. The following dimensions were checked against an original EM14e trigger. These instructions may or may not work with other McCullough Chainsaws, but they worked for me!

1.) buy a nylon thumscrew with a 3.20mm (.125 in) outer diameter and 13.2mm (.5 in) THREADED length (overall length varies depending on type of flat head used for thumbscrew and overall total length will likely exceed 18mm or .75 in)

2.) a nylon spacer .25in length and .125in inner diameter that I cut in half and used a shop grinder to loosely fit onto a mounting nail. I used the shop grinder to gently mill down to 8.7mm outer diameter by slowly pressing the spacer/nail combo against the grinder wheel.

I then tested in the EM14E handle to check for fit and after several trips to the grinder for the spacer, it works great.

3.) After checking for fit I glued the thumscrew and spacer together and am now able to use the trigger. Please note if you have a working loose fit for the trigger, do what I have and simply use masking tape to keep the trigger with the chainsaw so it does not get lost.

Where can I buy a fuel priming bulb, vinyl/soft

You can go to the carburetor manufacturer's website and look for parts. You will need the numbers of the carburetor in order to get the correct one. Alternately, you can go to a mower shop near you and they should be able to get you one or point you to a place that will have the part you are looking for.

Removing a link to shorten...stretched

It is never a good idea to shorten a chain, if it has stretced that bad you need to replace it, or it will snap, the chain does not have a joiner, you would need to break the chain, and re rivet a new pre set tie strap.

I have a Mcculloch electric

This is a full strip, and split side covers to get to the pump, this may well be a job for the local repair agent, having been apart it should then be PAT tested to ensure the double insulation it still good.
