Hughes HR10-250 DirecTV / TiVo 200-Hours Video Recorder Questions & Answers
Pause of Live TV not working
Ouch ! I simply did a reset (like power off/power on) to reset the HD-DVR.
I need to remember to rty that first all the time.
All works now.
Record
While we have the DishTV receiver/DVR, I suspect they are similar in principle.
You can't really do as you describe unless the unit has two individual tuners; some do, some don't. You'd need to check your manual to ldetermine that.
What you can do on all with the DVR function is watch a pre-recorded program since that comes from the hard drive, not the tuner.
This allows you to record one live and watch previously recorded material.

your dvr needs replaced! call your provider and they should replace it free of charge for you!
I have a DirectTV DVR
in feb when free air signels become digatal you should then be able to record your programs because your box is set to a digatal format and will not record the old analog signels
Clearing everything
A DVR has a small computer built in. When you run the clear everything option, this feature reinitialized the computer Hard Disk Drive doing a limited format. A format of a Hard Drive is always a slow process which normally takes 45 minutes to 1.5 hours on a 40 GB drive. Yours will actually take longer since it is larger (250 GB for 200 hours recording time), so I wouldn't panic yet. As long as you have a flashing red light on the box, it IS still formatting. If it goes beyond 8 hours, I would suspect you might have a problem or have been having some problem before (that motivated you to use clear everything). If, after 8 hours, it hasn't completed the format (red light flashing) then I would pull the cover on your DVR and pull and reseat the EIDE cable on the Hard Drive. Then restart again. Dirty contacts can cause this problem as well. Put the cover back on, do a hard restart and let it run again. If after another 8 hours, the problem still persists, then you may be experiencing read/write data errors on the drive. A failed or failing Hard Drive is most likely the culprit and it will have to be replaced. www.weaknees.com sells pre formatted and loaded Tivo Hard drives. If this is a Western Digital Drive, I would replace it with a Maxtor from them since the Maxtor are a special design just for DVR's.
Directv Tivo hr10-250
in Normal cases, it could take as long as 24 hrs.
else it is a case of dead hard drive

Most likely your HDMI card is defective. If you have a free component spot on your tv, use component. You'll get the same great picture as HDMI, just have to use 5 cables instead of 1. You also won't have to deal with the annoying HDCP problems and HDMI. If you do not have a free component slot, make sure your HDMI cable is securing (don't push hard) in the HDMI connector on the tivo and on the tv. Also, check your video settings to ensure they aren't cranked up from the factory, but 99% of the time, it's the bad HDMI card in the unit, which can be repaired. I recommend ccs corp in Indiana, I've used them in the past and they're great.
How do you save from your Tivo to your vcr
For the best picture you can run RCA video and audio cables to the video and audio inputs on your VCR. Another way would be to connect your TV out to your VCR Ant in and then the TV out from the VCR to your TV. Tune your TV to channel 3 or 4 (set on the VCR) Turn on the VCR and you should see a picture. This should work without any problem. If it doesn't, then it is possible that your VCR has anti-copy firmware installed to inhibit or stop the copy process when triggered by a code from the program being aired. (GO Video has this) Many older VCR's do not. Try copying directly off the air or a commecial and see if your VCR can record that. If it can, then your VCR is equipped with a Macromedia Anti-piracy chipset and firmware. If it can't copy ANYTHING, then there is a problem with your cables or VCR. If you try replacing the cables with different ones, and it still doesn't work, then you VCR is defective and may require servicing.
