Hello
OK, firstly, you are correct. This is most likely a mechanical problem, so, you will need to ask yourself the following questions:
- When you press the eject button, can you hear a grinding noise?
- Does the player make any sound if you press the eject button?
- If there is still a CD in the tray, can you still listen to it.
Now, if the unit does not make any sound once you press the eject button, this is an electrical problem, which means the motor does not get any power to move the tray out.
If you can hear a sound, the motor is trying to eject the tray, and have either slipped of the gear, or the rubber band which is driven by the motor has broken off.
If i may make an suggestion...
If you can hear the motor spinning, i would rather that you take the unit is. I had this exact problem a couple of times now, and had it repaired in 10 minutes for under $5. I am suggesting this, because, if you do try opening up the unit yourself, you might damage the laser lens, which will cause a much more expensive problem.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any further questions.
Kind regards
