Timex 20031 Wrist Watch - Page 7 Questions & Answers
I recently changed the battery on my Timex Ironman 30lap, now the alarm doesn't chime at all.
I don't know about this specific watch and what happened but so see it as a pointer to rule out a mishap....What happens a lot is that while removing and reseating the back of the watch, some contacts that use the back to ground (it is part of the internal circuitry) will not make contact after re-installing. This can be due to bended contact points or a placed plastic mask with holes in it. After installing the holes do not sync up anymore with the contact points so... no contact. Just remove the back and take a good look. What you can do is cleaning the inside of the backplate with alcohol and/or contactspray (remove the excessive fluid, it should not be soaked). Contacts that stick out maybe bend just a little more outwards to ensure good contacts. Are there any contact-blades missing. Sometimes springs are used to make contact. These can easily jump awar when you remove the back. Good luck!
I just replaced the battery
It sounds like you're not far off. Peel the sticker back a little, and see if there is a small contact point (usually yellow metal) - this should be marked 'AC'. Short this to the + for 3 seconds, then repeat for good measure. If that doesn't sort it, try taking the battery out, wait about 30 seconds then put it back in and reset if necessary. If there's still no display, obtain a known working battery and try again.
If you still have no display, it's time to give up and admit it's dead.... unless you've been using a plastic coated paper clip.
Good luck.
