My Onkyo sub-woofer sounds like something is loose

sub woofers are very powerful bass , with incredible sounding technology. your problem might be with the woofer wall around the circle. open the box and take the woofer out.Check if there is any tare over the corners of the cloth. sometimes there might be a crazy noise because of a little opening in the cloth caused by small tare.. if so better change it with a new 1 and make sure that the new cloth has guaranty

Subwoofer stops working at times

many pple have the same problem.... that subwoofer stops working sometimes when playing music or something else... I also faced the same problem .... I did the following things..

open your subwoofer. checked all connections for any loose contacts... and then check the wire of the main speaker.....

IF YOU FIND DIFFICULTIES IN OPENING OR IF YOU DONT KNOW MORE ABOUT THE INTERNAL PARTS OF SUBWOOFERS.. THEN DONT TRY TO OPEN IT.. YOU MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO IT...IN THIS CASE :

GIVE YOUR SUBWOOFERS TO THE SERVICE CENTRE FOR REPAIRING...

I need to turn it on it's side on the floor to fit

"Subwoofer is designed to be used in the upright vertical position only. Do not use it in the horizontal or tilted position."

I believe the speaker is downward firing and is designed for a nearby (floor) surface. Perhaps if it faced the wall at the same distance...

Of course, you can do whatever you like with it and it may sound just fine to you, or as good as possible within the limits you have to work with.

Powered Subwoofer repair--- Transformer issues?

Well yes transformers do fail and the transformer does say it has an internal fuse fitted which might have failed. The fuse on the board blowing is an indication of overload. The fact it didn't blow again shows that it is not getting any power or the fault has gone (doubtfull).
I doubt the transformer is a step up. But follow the circuit on the pc board till you come to electroytic capicator. This will have a voltage on it. The power level will be no more and perhaps less than the voltage on the capacitor. Another clue to the power level is if the secondary wires are narrower than those that go to the mains. That will indicate that less voltage comes out.
OK what to do. Well most makers say that the transformer is a safety item so it has to be replaced with the same type or one which is approved by the maker. So you can either contact the maker direct or find a service center, (for the brand) which might order you a replacement, or take the transformer to Radio Shack with details of the model number of the Sub, and see if they can get it for you. While there have a look at the multimeters. You should find one that will help you for all your future needs. I recomend one with a scale (rather than a digital). They are some around for £10 to £20 (I know you live in the USA but you can convert it) that will do what you might need it for.
The first thing to do if you get a meter is check with the ohm setting diodes or bridge rectifiers for shorts. IE: as if you had touch both probes together! Also do the same with any transitors you might find. As this could be the cause of the fuse blowing, and even the transformer's failure.

My onkyo subwoofer does not turn on the green

My Onkyo S/W did the same thing untill I unplugged it from the surge protector that all the other A/V devices are plugged into. I plugged the sub into it's very own wall recepticle with it's very own new surge protector. Maybe cleaner power is the answer.

No sound coming out of my Onkyo SKW-200 subwoofer

A subwoofer is just really a mono amp for the signal. As with all amps if you touch the audio section/parts with a small screwdriver, you should hear a buzz from the speaker. (Follow the audio wires to be certain you are on the audio section). This can be used for testing the amp section. If you get no buzz or noise (anywhere) at all then it's power supply could be playing up. If you have a multimeter you can test it looking to see if it is getting power. Allways suspect any part that is on a heatsink. Before removing any suspect you can put the part numbers into Google to see if you can get them and it will give you a clue to cost.
PS don't short any parts when you touch with a screwdriver, and don't put it on the power parts.

Light stays red doesnt go

change the subwoofer sensitivity. run the receiver speaker test mode and check for sound.

Then go back into system setup, see that front speakers are set to small and sub is turned on.
------------ also check if the wiring connections are loose.if still the same problem with proper wiring.then internal "AMP" pcb is got short and that needs to be replaced so the unit goes to stand by mode. -------------- This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya.

Subwoofer issues

Hi,

The fuse blows when the current that passes through it are beyond its rating. This could be brought about by excessive consumption of the load, in this case the amplifier powering the sub-woofer.

Repairs would involve component level and require that you be familiar with electronic components and circuitry, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. Often it is just the finals that needs to be replaced. Of course we cannot discount the possibility of other components or section such as the power supply.

The smoke indicates something heating up such as a resistor or diode or a capacitor.

Should you be uncomfortable opening the unit and doing a DIY (do-it-yourself), then perhaps you need to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Should the downtime and cost of repair be no longer economically reasonable, purchase of a new unit might save you further trouble.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Try resetting the receiver's BIOS by following these steps2: Unplug all cables Un-Power the receiver Power the receiver Before the receiver gets into the "Enter for updating" message, press Tone + CBL/SAT + ON/STANDBY. This will show you either the volume numbers or get you into settings of the receiver's speaker configuration. Press CBL/SAT + ON/STANDBY. How do I hook my onkyo SKW-791powered subwoofer to my onkyo av receiver HT-R758

You need a RCA sub-woofer cable (analog mono) to connect between the receiver's sub-woofer Pre Out and the sub-woofer. This cable has a single RCA plug at each end of the cable. The cable is somewhat thicker than some audio RCA cables. You can use any RCA cable temporarily. The manual for the HT-R758 is available from Onkyo here: https://onkyousa.com/ht-r758 . The current link to the manual is https://assets.onkyo-av.com/product-manuals/HT-S6500_English_2022-11-02-204020_ivkn.pdf?v=1667421620 . See page EN-13 (page 13 of the PDF) for connecting to the subwoofer. The original package came with a 10' RCA sub-woofer cable, see page EN-1 (page 81 of the PDF) for the speaker list. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells
