My guess is feed dog interference. Clean out bobbin, hook, and feed dog area.

You might first try lowering and raising feed dogs and see if problem goes away.

Loop and nesting on wrong (bottom) side is usually low or zero tension of top thread. Can also be uneven feed of top thread. If unsure whether top or bottom thread try a different color top thread. With a horizontal spool, be sure the spool cap is larger than the spool and that the thread unspools falling forward over the top of spool and not towards the rear (see user manual). Test top thread tension... with foot up set tension to 4 and make a long steady pull. Then lower foot and make another long steady pull. Note difference in zero tension (foot up) and tension setting 4 (foot down). If no difference then make sure there's no debris or thread stuck in tension discs. You can make a long steady pull of bottom thread and it should have a tension similar to the top thread with tension select at 4. Comment here for further assistance.

This machine requires maintenance at least once a year. If it’s been a long time, might need servicing before you can embroider. Check that your bobbin winder is not engaged. The belt may have slipped off. If it has the covers have to come off to put it back on.

Remove the top cover. Note where the shaft of the the needle position wheel enters a metal casting under the wheel. Old oil deposits gum up the shaft. Heating this area with a hair dryer usually frees up the shaft. Be careful you don't use too much heat that would melt the plastic wheel. Lubricate the shaft with tri-flow and work it in by turning the wheel while it is warm. If it sticks again after it cools, repeat the process. It may take several hours or days for the tri-flow to penetrate and free the wheel up.

The old oil may be causing the machine to seize. You might try setting the machine within distance of a heat source, like in the sun on a warm day or within 3-4 ft of a fireplace, etc. The warmth sometimes will loosen things. If this helps, you may want to have a thorough cleaning and oiling done by a technician.

Be sure to thread each in the ORDER specified--for most machines (but yours may differ) upper looper, lower looper, then needles. Follow (closely) the threading diagram on the machine. Missing one guide or hitting the guides out of order will throw you machine into a tizzy! On my serger, the lower looper has to lay over the top of the upper looper/thread before it all gets pulled under the presser foot toward the back of the machine. It should have worked in a few minutes.The SD card could be faulty or incompatible with your machine Turn it off, wait 15 seconds then turn it on again. This will not cause damage to the machine. SD cards should be inserted or removed with the power off. They are not like USB drives which can be inserted with power on. Your machine uses USB drives not SD cards according to the manual, are you using an adaptor? If it still doesn't load after 10 minutes, there is a problem with either the SD card or the machine. Try the SD card on another Elna 860, perhaps at the dealer's shop, to prove it is ok, then ask the dealer to load the designs into your machine while you watch.
