Hi there,
you can download an instruction manual for your machine from this link
http://www.arizonaexpressionz.com/elna_instruction_manuals/2003-2005-2007_instruction_Manual_En.pdf
This manual covers three models - the 2003, 2005 and 2007, just read carefully when looking at specific functions - the manual will state which models differnet functions apply to.

To obtain a new foot control and power cord:

Firstly check that the machine is the same voltage as the power supply for the country you are in. Check plate on the right side, usually near the power inlet plug. This will state model, serial number and voltage. Make a note of these details.

Then go to this page http://www.elna.com/?country=246
and choose your country, then go to the page "contact us" and ring Elna head office in your country. They should be able to give you a price and availability on the foot control and power lead or direct you to a local dealer who can sell you these items.

There is also several good sewing parts and info websites:
www.sewingpartsonline.com and www.sewusa.com for USA
and www.sewingparts.co.uk for UK
however I can't see the items you require on these sites so best to contact Elna direct. However, you may find other accessories such as bobbins for sale on one of these sites.

I trust that this assists you: 4 thumbs up please if so. All the best with getting to know your 2005.
cheers
Tally Girl

Where is the reverse button

The reverse button is next to where you thread the cotton. as the thread goes down to the needle, there is a small cream tab approx 1.5cm long. This is pushed down when you want to reverse. It will only go down about 1.5cm then release.

it may be that your wheel has been disconnected. Did you wind a bobbin? The wheel on the right of the machine should be pulled out to wind a bobbin and then remember to push it firmly back into place

What foot do I use for strraight stitching I have

Ideally you want a foot that looks like this with a very small hole where the needle goes down, to maximise the pressure onto the fabric. Just don't move the stitch setting to anything that swings the needle or you'll smash the needle onto the foot and risk damaging the machine.

But unless you are having issues with the fabric being pulled down into the feed dogs, the regular clear sewing foot should be fine for most work and is certainly easier to see what you are sewing.

tally_girl_69.jpg A lot of quilters go for a 1/4" foot too which gives you consistent 1/4" seam widths when piecing quilts. There is a excellent website on sewing machine feet and their different purposes, link is
http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/2009/06/feet-feet-feet/ and she has great images of 1/4" foot in use along with others such as Open Toed or Roller foot.

If you are shopping for different machine feet, you may like to look at www.sewingpartsonline.com, great website with lots of different brands. Your machine would be classified as a "low Shank" machine I think; often you can buy a generic brand foot which will work on different brand machines once you are sure of the shank type.

Most sewers find that there will be one foot they prefer to use for much of their work depending on their projects. My all time fav is the Elna Teflon foot, a black teflon coated foot which works great on many different fabrics; I've worn the black off the bottom of two of them!!

How do i use the

  • Guide the thread through the sewing machine, stopping just before you have to put the thread through the needle.

  • 2

Turn the hand wheel on the side of the sewing machine to bring the needle to its highest position.

  • 3

Locate the automatic needle threader lever beside the needle shank that holds the needle in place. Pull down the threader lever partway to lower the thread guide. Hook the thread under the guide.

  • 4

Bring the threader lever down the rest of the way, causing the mechanism to twist and a looped end opposite the thread guide to be pushed through the eye of the needle.

  • 5

Continue to hold the lever down while catching the thread on the looped end. Pull the thread taut.

  • 6

Release the lever and the thread at the same time. The threader will quickly snap back, bringing the looped end and a loop of thread through the needle.

  • 7

Grasp the loop of thread and pull it until the end of the thread passes through the needle.

    Having thread breakage probelm and

have you got the manual for this machine? You can download one from here: http://www.ps2netdrivers.net/manual/elna.2005/

It is a front loading bobbin and removabel bobbin case so I think the bobbin is a plastic "Class 15" - like this http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/bobbins-class-15-plastic-10-pack.aspx

Thread breaking could be caused several factors such as the thread actually being old and brittle, the needle or needle plate having burrs and catching the thread, incorrect threading, bobbin in bobbin case the wrong way, or top tension discs playing up/too tight or thread catching somewhere in the threading path.

I'd suggest that you trouble shoot this and refer to the manual for cleaning instructions. If you can access them clean between the tension discs (turn tension down to zero and "floss" between the by running the selvage edge of a piece of clean cotton scrap through the discs to remove any lint/dye buildup). Wind a fresh bobbin and rethread referring to the manual to ensure the bobbin is turning the right way. New needle and rethread top thread refering to threading diagram. Tension on 5 and test sew again.

If you are still having problems, then the machine may benefit from a service by your local Elna dealer, a good service and clean at least every 2 years is recommended.

    I have an elna 7000

Have you changed the needle and perhaps put it in backwards? this would prevent stitches from forming as the rotary hook goes around.

However, worst case, would be that the timing is out and may need to visit the mechanic to resolve if this is the case.
