The switch does not get red because reach of adequate temperature is not detected. The problem is either thermostat or element. Both parts are tested using a multimeter set on Ohms to read impedance. if the part reads open, then it must be replaced.

Problem will be locating the part.

First call Breville and find out repair price and warranty status.

There's also a high temp version thats rated up to 500 deg F if you need to fix something with a higher heat rating.

Error 08 is normally an issue with the magnetron or power supply. Not an easy fix. Call an appliance engineer.
