Why does upper thread snap when backstitching?

May be an issue with the feed dogs, or possibly a burr on the hook. Lay a peice of scrap material under the foot as if you were going to sew, remove needle, then run machine in reverse to see if it feeds material backwards as it should

Singer advance7422 burst the tread

When you thread the top do it with the foot in the up position. As you thread you should notice the ease of movement through the tension, holes, etc. If you come to a point it is sticking, check why. The tension could be a problem. Anyway, if you don't seem to have a problem hear then put your foot down. Pull on the thread to see if it is stuck or not moving with an extreme amount of difficulty. You may need to lower the tension. A good starting point is 3. I expect your tension is the problem. If it is still the problem then lower the bobbin tension slightly. By the time you finish the knot should be in the middle of the fabric. Sometimes there is one more problem It is the thread is poor quality and is unravelling in the needle hole. Observe this closely as you sew. You know what to do if this is the problem.

Bottom thread not catching with top thread

The first thing you need to do is change needles, then check to make sure that the end of the needle is all the way up in the needle clamp, with the flat part against the BACK of the machine. The needle you're using may be bent or inserted too low, and that will cause the upper thread from not being able to catch the bottom thread. If you do that and it still doesn't catch, your timing is off and will need to be corrected by a technician; however, it does not have to be an authorized Singer technician; it's a very common adjustment that any technician can do. I believe Sears services all machines. The most common reason for the timing to go off is by turning the hand wheel repeatedly away from you. ALWAYS turn it towards you, and ALWAYS thread your machine with the presser foot UP.

Why won't my bobbin winder work

It could be the belt has snapped, or something else it out of adjustment. You can either get it fixed, or purchased an inexpensive bobbin winder for under $25 from WalMart online.

I have my machine threaded and it runs with no beeps however it is not sewing the material together

I'm wondering if you have the flat side of the needle in correctly. If your bobbin assembly is in the front of the machine, the flat side should be towards the back. Also, check to make sure your needle is ALL the way up in the needle clamp.

Can I use a vintage singer 161103 zigzagger attachment on a 201 k machine?

No I don't think it will. That attachment is for a 'Slant Shank' machine like a 301. The K on the Sewing machine model number simply means it was built in Scotland. That means it is basically the same as most other 201's.
