A very easy,but possable expensive,problem to cure. The power switch terminals have been rusted/worn down. either replacing or easily lubricating will solve this. Go to a hardware store and buy a small tube of graphite. Carefully put the tip into the opening in case surrounding it. lightly squeeze and press the switch repeatedly. Or just until it responds.After 5-10 times, replacement is necessary. Power is another possable cause.

What you will likely find is that the bottoms of your hands are touching the trackpad causing the cursor to jump around, this is very common with laptops.
