Insert the installation disk that came with the machine. Turn off the machine, then turn on the machine and on the menu screen select install..... but before you do, make sure you have the product key on hand, because it will ask you for the 25 digit product key.

The hard drive may be failing, or just the OS or hard drive corrupted. You could try this... Pull the hard drive out, and use a USB Hard Drive Adapter to connect the hard drive to a friend's computer, and save all the personal files (documents, pictures, etc.) you can to a folder on the friend's computer or an external hard drive.
Then, you could try to do a Factory Restore on the computer, and if that works, copy your personal files back to your newly restored computer.

Good luck.

You have to do a password reset to unlock all (advanced) BIOS features. See the service manual (link below) page 33 + 34 how to do this. Take a good look at the picture, memorize the procedure, shutdown PC, unplug from mains, remove cover, find the PSWD jumper, move jumper from 2-3 to 1-2, wait 1/2 minute ( or less), reinstall the jumper to 2-3, ......... restart and hit F2 to enter BIOS SETUP ....... link to service manual:

Contact your PC's manufacture and ask for the proper settings or you may be able to Google search it by typing in your PC make and Model and then ask how the bios settings are supposed to be set at.

It's a generic Windows message, and is exactly what is says. For instance if you execute a game twice, you would get that error for the second instance.

If you don't see a second. Check Task Manager and kill (stop) there.

Try accessing the system restore partition by cold booting holding down the F8 or F10 key. If this works, backup your HDD to the optical drive and replace the HDD.

do you have another card slot to use? try it there and make sure it's seated well btw, you might check to see it's compatible with Dell too, since the card is not plugging into the windows 7 software.

Use caution when working inside the power supply. If you don't see a fuse in the power supply, OR you come to find that the fuse is not damagaed then you will likely need to replace the power supply. I have only come across Conpaq psu units with replacable fuses in them.

If you have hard disk problems then this can cause many other problems on your computer, including impacting on performance due to the resources which are used in handling and trying to correct the disk problems.

I would strongly recommend that you make a full backup of your computer while it is still working and before the hard disk fails completely.

If you are using Windows 7 then you can do this using the Windows Backup process to make a System Image backup which can then be used to recover your system provided the image is written to either an external USB hard drive or to DVD discs.

If you have a different version of Windows, then you should try using one of the free Backup programs such as Easeus Todo Backup or Paragon Backup & Recovery Free - the links for these are below:

http://www.todo-backup.com/
http://www.paragon-software.com/free/

If you want to replace the failing hard disk yourself (after you have made a full backup as advised above) then see the Dell Inspiron 580 Service Manual for details on how to do this.

Blue screen could be the windows files getting corrupted due to a virus, file fragmentation or a failing hard drive, overheating cpu or failing memory.
The beeping usually indicates a hardware failure, first open the computer and see it the CPU heatsink is in place properly seated and fan is connected and spinning.
Second with the PC off, remove and reinsert the memory.
These are just a few things to check , most likely the hard drive has failed and needs replacing.
pressing certain keys during bootup can sometimes isolate the issue, but only if the monitor still shows a picture
I hope this helps
Thanks
Roety

You can manually open the CD tray with a straighten paper clip.
There is a tiny hole below the tray, push the paper clip into this hole and the tray will pop out slightly. You can then grab this tray and pull it out all the way.
