Not woking my external hard disk

body { background: #FFFFFF; margin: 0px; padding: 4px; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; } p { margin:0px; padding:0px; } .spwrap { background: transparent url(../wysiwyg_rte/misspell.gif) repeat-x scroll center bottom; } Hello

Okay , so there are some steps to figure out what is wrong with your external.

Firstly , if your computer makes a sound when you plug in your external , go to Start-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-Disk Management , and see if your external drive is listed here with your local drives. If it is listed , right click on the drive and change the drive letter to make it appear in "my computer".

If your drive does not make a connection sound when connecting to your computer and also does not show up , please follow the next step.

Remove the hard drive from the casing if possible and install it in your computer case or another external case.If the drive works , the problem is with the casing and you can ignore the drive.

Now , if the problem is with the casing , there are still 3 possibilities.

  1. The USB cable between the drive and the computer may be damaged.
  2. The circuit board which connects your drive to the interface of the external may be blown.
  3. The power supply (if applicable) may have a blown transformer.
The latter is the easiest to diagnose , does your external light up at all when you plug in the power? If not , then this is probably your problem. On the bottom of the adapter is a label which you will be able to use to have a new adapter made at your local electronics shop and this will cost about $30 max. They will also be able to test the adapter with a clamp meter to see if this is really the problem and this should be free.

The second component you want to test is the USB cable. If you have a printer , swop out the cables and see if your printer functions normally. Most externals use the same connector so you should be able to test it in this manner. If the cable works go on to the last step. If the cable is defective , replace it with a new one which you can find for about $10 at most electronics and chain stores.

The last component to test is the circuit board. This is a bit of a grey zone as you probably won't be able to spot the blown component unless it failed really badly. With the casing already opened , locate the external's circuit board and check to see if you have any blackened components or fluids leaking from some components. If all the other components of the external worked perfectly , then this is the faulty part. It is not really economical to replace the circuit as most of the time it is out of production by the time you need to replace it and it still costs a lot even if it is available so if your drive is working perfectly when connected via sata or IDE on your computer , the best is to buy a new casing and place your old drive in the new casing.

A casing costs about $50 and you could get it at most tech shops and big chain stores like Best Buy.

I hope this solves your problem and please reply if you need more help.

Kind Regards
Andrea

Looking for component level diag for ASrock K7S8X?

Still no info from Asrock "support"(4 weeks) but then again, didn't really expect any.
They might be whizz kids at plugging in modules and tweaking firmware but a real electronic problem is like speaking chinese to them ! (pun intended)
So much for the world 're-cycling'efforts,smashing the boards up for the gold edges doesn't even come close to sensible. I know exactly what is wrong with this board and the components needed are surface mounted, therefore it is fixable. The component values are unmarked (typical)and it looks like the manufacturer couldnt care less or be bothered to publish cct diags.
All manufacturers seem to be the same so it looks like I will have to wait for another 'genuinely scrap' board to come along and cannibalise that.
Any offers anyone ??????

Beeps beeps beeps everwhere on my desktop

Depends on the BIOS. The beep code means ether the memory or CPU. Since you are attempting to install a another CPU its probably a problem with the CPU itself (dameged or incompatible) or a BIOS setting problem. Also make sure you always use thermal paste. The replacement CPU might be heating up and not functioning.

I turn my computer and i hear a three beep code

hi,

3 beep code is a video card mis function. try taking the video card out only after you disconnect the power cord and touch the cpu case to take the static from your body and make sure it properly seats into the slot. then restart your system if this doesn,t work and you continue to get the 3 beep code it will most likely time to get a new video card.. if the card is a built in card and you have available slots on *********** board try adding another card . depending on the age and brand of computer you coomputer will auto recognize another card and work or will ask you which card do you want tio use in this case prompt for the new card and it will contintue to use it. good luck .. thanks..

No boot and beeps

The exact fault code indicates RAM or a problem accessing the RAM.
Check that you are using recommended/Approved RAM as ASUS and ASROCK (the budget arm of ASUS) are notoriously fussy with RAM.
If it all checks out then your northbridge could be dead and it will probably be scrap.

ASROCK K7S8X in power save mode.

when you replaced the internal battery you also reset the cmos adjustments,500 mb ram ? 526 maybe, not alot but won't affect startup, start from scratch, disconnect anything not associated w/start up cd drive, omit video card.and plug monitor into mobo (if there is a d-sub).You need to get to your bio's,restart comp while depressing delete.when bios shows up reload default settings.and start up.you can't resolve this without getting into bio's good luck

Asrock G31M-S No Display/not Booting

First of all, check if there are any inflated capacitors, if there is even one- ditch MBO, other capacitors will soon follow. If no inflated capacitors proceed with these diagnostic steps: 1/ disconnect all peripherials (DVD, HDD, card reader...), leave only MBO, PSU and RAM (and CPU of course); if nothing happens 2/remove CMOS battery (CR2032) for 20-30 sec with power cord disconected from computer, that will reset BIOS; 3/ take out RAM sticks, then, if you have more than one stick, try with each stick separately (it might be faulty RAM); 4/power on MBO without any RAM-if speaker is present it should give BEEP signals; 5/ try with different PSU, many power supplies are faulty even when they do give power to MBO. If nothing of above does not help than you have faulty MBO, because CPUs are so rare to fail that in my 10 years of experience in PC service I had 3-4 fried CPU-s, and even that was because costumer tried to clean PC, removed CPU cooler and than incorrectly placed it back or didn't put thermal paste afterwards. asrock-g31m-s-no-display-booting-yuc33qzjuwfqgyyin4u45syc-4-0.jpg
