Try resetting the electronics to factory defaults. Re the flash - if it continues to stick get it open and leave it like that until you find out just what it is that is causing it to stick. Mechanical issue and do able.

Why won't it turn on?

Electronic components cannot withstand the sudden jolt when a camera hits the floor, ground, etc. It either needs to get repaired or thrown in the garbage.

Marks are appearing on the back screen beneath the glass, they are not on the photos but are permanent on the screen. The main one is top right hand corner. What can I do?

The screen would have to be replaced typically. It may not be worth the cost though.

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to transfer pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries. Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo management program, such as Picasa. Organize edit and share your photos

How to check nikon coolpix s800 battery level

In the upper right corner of the LCD there is a small battery level indicator. When the battery is fully charged, it is all black. As the charge goes down, one side will be white and the other side black to indicate the remaining charge. If you look at item 6 on page 6 of the manual, it shows you. This link will take you to your camera's manual: http://cdn-10.nikon-cdn.com/pdf/manuals/coolpix/S800cRM_EN.pdf

I had the same issue, droped camera then even if flash is opened the flash was no triggered. As Paul said I found the sensor for sensing the flash position, I made a few trials then I soldered one pin of the sensor to the sensor's case like in the picture attached. Now is working the flash all the time even if it is closed.... opening the flash is manually.... but still better than without flash at all.. Ignac1eada77d-17bb-4615-ab5f-13935ba3bd72.jpg

My new nikon coolpix S8000 camera won't turn on.

Make sure to shut the battery door! I had the same problem. The only way to access the a/v out is to open the battery door but you must shut the battery door or it won't charge
