Why are my pictures blurry? The camera is a nikon coolpix s4000.

They are either out of focus or suffering from camera shake - check the camera settings. Another possibility is foreign matter adhering to the lens.

Why do I get blurry pictures on screen even when I'm focusing.

Go to MENU. Then TOOLS. Make sure Motion Detection is in AUTO. If that is on AUTO then Put the camera on a hard surface (like tripod) and focus and see if image is still blurry. Lastly, it is difficult to focus in some conditions. Move the focus point, you can click on the screen to change it. Blur can be caused by: long exposures, camera motion during photograph, bad conditions unable to focus. The focus routine in this camera gets confused often. It can be frustration. It will only be in focus when it is GREEN before you shoot and the camera is not shaking. At night it can take great night shots with a TRIPOD and Exposure set to -1 to -2.

Why battery exhausted can not charge

This is my standard response to your type of question. It covers all the possibilities: First, I would check your batteries. Start by removing them and making sure that the battery contacts in the camera and on the batteries are clean. If they are dirty. A new pencil eraser can be rubbed against the contacts to remove any oils or residue. Next, I would make sure your batteries are charged. A quick way is to check is to take them out and put them in another device that takes two AA batteries and see if it works. If the batteries are bad, put two new alkaline (non-rechargeable) batteries in your camera to see if it powers up. If it does and you wish to use those batteries, be sure to go into your menu and set the camera to use alkaline batteries because there voltage output is slightly different from rechargeable batteries. Remember that you cannot recharge those batteries and trying to do so can damage your charger and cause the batteries to explode. If the camera will not power up with new batteries, the camera will need to be sent in to Nikon USA for repair (see the Nikon website for information). If the camera powers up with the substitute batteries, either your rechargeable batteries have gone bad or you camera's battery charger is defective. For problems with the internal charger, it is probably more cost effective to buy an external battery charger then to send the camera in for repair unless your camera is still under warranty. External battery chargers are available for under $20. There is one other possible cause of battery failure. If the camera's internal circuitry has an electrical problem, especially a short circuit, the camera will draw excessive current from the batteries and run them down. If that is the case, you would obviously need to send your camera in for repair.

On my Nikon Coolpix S4000, when power is turned on, the lens extends fully, opens, retracts fully, and then closes automatically. Lens Error then appears. It does not make noises and has not been use

I had the same problem with a similar Coolpix model. It's an error on the lens mechanism. Maybe you pressed the lens by accident while they were retracting, or something like that... It's really a delicate mechanism. I think you have to send it for a service... Sorry!

While deleting photos camera shut dow

May I suggest the battery was very low. The Nikon delete routine shows a bright display after the file is deleted, this may take a bit of power. May I suggest you work on your files on your computer? That is, that the SD card out and work on the files on the computer. Now I suggest charging the camera and taking out the SD Card and then turning it on. If it works try it again with the SD card in.

Camera will not focus

There can be so many issues, but to make sure it has nothing to d with any setting, remove the battery and after you replaced it, set the camera to automatic (green camera logo on the main dial) then try making a pictures as described in the manual: position a subject to the middle of the frame, press the shutter release button halfway and wait till the subject in the focus area glows green. (I hope this time it works) then press the shutter complete. If it now works, perhaps it is clear where the camera setting was wrong? Be aware the camera needs a subject with enough contrast and enough light to focus correct. You also could shoot by taping the part the camera should focus on, on the screen. And because yur camera has so many options to focus, i do advice you to look in the manual and check what modes the camera has. Perhaps in the future you can recognise how or on what the camera want to focus. I hoop your camera does not have any defect. success.

Screen has a giant blue line through the center and can only barely see about 1/6 out of the screen

When you can make pictures, and view them on a computer and not on the camera screen, nothing is wrong with the lens or the photo sensor. But I think something is wrong with the LCD screen. Cold be the screen itself, but also the connection to the screen or deeper in the camera. If you can't solve a camera problem, after removing the battery, and reinserting it after a few seconds, the mostly you should contact the service centre. Be aware that some repairs can cost more than a new camera of the same quality. So ask what it will cost first.

Stopped working

Although you may think your battery can live forever, batteries almost never tell you when they stop working. If you charged the battery, checked the contact on the battery and in the camera. (They should be clean and shiny) the only suspect in my eyes is the battery. If you have a multimeter you could try to measure the voltage. It should be just above the voltage printed on the battery. If it says 3.7 volt on the battery, your multimeter should show at least 3.8, because the battery does not have to deliver any current, when on the multimeter. Always when you have a strange error with your camera, switch it off, remove the battery and charge it. When you replace the battery and the error comes back, you should consult a service centre.

How do i shut off the recoreding

This is an odd question. I think you mean, how do I stop recording a video, so I can take pictures. After you switched on the camera, you press the shooting mode button (camera logo). then on the left of the display you see four logos. Your camera is on the forth logo from the top (FilmCamera logo) Tap on the display, on the top (camera) logo, to enter the picture taking mode. It is all in the manual on page 26. When you get more experienced, the same screen can guide you on to more complex modes, so you also can improve pictures when you meet extreme situations. In the auto mode 99 percent of the shots will be good.

How do i shut off recoreding

The same button you pressed to start the recording, must be pressed to stop the recording. If the camera acts strange, you first have to look if the memory access light is burning or flashing. As long as this light is on or flashing you are not allowed to remove the battery. Only try switching off the camera, When the memory access light stopped burning or flashing, you eventually can remove the battery, to stop the camera acting in a strange way. When you have had a problem with the camera, switch it off, and then remove the battery for a short time. Then reinsert the battery. If your camera is switched on, you can change the shooting mode, by tapping the back panel (screen) and go to the logo's you see, to change it from recording video to taking pictures. All details about your camera you can find in the manual. All Nikon manuals are online with Nikon USA.

Windows driver

Do you really need a driver? The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries. Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you an use any photo management program such as Nikon Transfer ( http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/61 ) or Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).
