Hi Betty, it's Jack at Dyson. If the wand locking clip has come out of place, it should just push back into position. The spring should sit under the end of the clip that you press. As far as I know DC31's don't have a belt, they are direct drive. Maybe you should describe the issue you are having or maybe got the wrong model number?

Don't overlook the obvious. My DC31 just stopped working when I was using it. No lights, no noise, nothing. After poking around for a a couple of minutes, I removed the battery and then re-inserted it. I gave it a good tap with the palm of my hand to make sure it was seated properly. Everything worked after that.

Hi Robert, it's Jack at Dyson. If your DC31's light comes on when you pull the trigger, but the machine itself doesn't run, it could mean that the battery needs charging. I would suggest connecting it to the charger and allowing it to recharge fully for 3.5 hours.
