Replacing the print solenoid cap

The best way to find what you are looking for is to look at your printwheel. Right in the middle of the carriage there is a part that hits the printwheel. That is called the hammer. If you look down on the left side you will see a blue piece of rubber that attaches to the hammer. If you continue to look further down the hammer you will see the solenoid that activates and hits a screw that sticks out from the hammer. The end of the solenoid is where the "cap" can be attached. You do not have to remove the solenoid to install the repair "cap" if that is what you are really looking for. A technician can put in a new cap in less that 30 seconds.

What is the part number for a ww6 ribbon lift plate?

Here are the part numbers as requested as well as some others. The ribbon plate is 1384819. The ribbon plate assembly is 1384817. The ribbon plate motor is 1384821. You may want to order the whole assembly to make sure as the plate doesn't have the motor on it.

Wheelwriter 6, flashing #3 beeps 3 times. press any keys twice and it will type.

You batteries need to be replaced, and or the battery holder is corroded. Should be removed and cleaned so acid does not leak inside the machine. Batteries hold the margins and tabs when turned off, not real necessarry.

Carriage will not return on 2 of our IBM Wheelwriter 6, can this be fixed?

First spray some WD40 on the silxer shaft that the carrier slides on they get really gummy, if this works run it back and forth a few times then clean the shaft off with a rag. DickyO

When I type a lower case t, it types out as two consecutive up and down lines

This is a symptom of a bad print wheel. One or more of the spokes on the printwheel are bent or broken. Replacing printwheel is about the only option. Printwheels run about $60.00.

Where is the TYPEWRITER SOLENOID on a IBM Wheelwriter 6 Series II

The "print" solenoid is what hits the hammer that hits the printwheel and makes it type on your paper. If you remove the ribbon and look straight down in the carrier on the left side you can see the solenoid. It is below the blue piece of rubber that sits on the hammer arm. The end of the solenoid is supposed to have a cap on the end of the plunger. This cap gives a specific clearance so when it is activated, it hits the hammer arm to propel it forward to strike the printwheel.

IBM Wheelwriter 6 Typewriter - while typing, characters just quit printing on paper. Checked ribbon, machine etc. Everything checked out?? What could be the problem.

It is probably the print solenoid that has a broken cap. I have seen a few advertisers that sell the repair kit with instructions. It is fairly simple to repair.

Memory erases when turned off

There are AA batteries in the machine and it takes either 2 or 3. You can replace them when the machine is on as that will not harm the machine or you. The batteries should be replaced every one - two years. Replacing them when the machine is turned on will allow the current memory to remain intact.
