Hi,

Reconnect the 5500 to the computer, and erase any file/recordings that you have in the recorder. Then in the bottom right corner of your screen you need to use the Safely Remove Hardware by simply clicking on the USB icon and then select the 5500 from the list (or removable storage device) unplug it and plug it back in.

Hi,

Just Open the case by unscrewing.

move the HDD (hard disk) and take out battery its just to reset the unit.Your unit will work fine now.

I found the answer on this site: http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_support_faqs.asp?id=1126#22 I held down the menu button--got to the sub menu and restored it to the original default setting. It cleared everything and now I can record tons again. Note for future--don't delete on your mac--only delete the files on your dvr to save you the trouble of having to do this.

simple convert them all to .wav or mp3 then can play anywhere.. thats what i do... now can some one help me.. my dss 2 doesn't work right in the very nnoying new win 7 computer.. keep getting a dll error and olympus has the drivers all archived and not updated for win 7

Please check to see if the tape is running. It is possible that the tape was running dry and created the sqeak with a static noise over the head. the belt would have failed then and stopped the tape movement. hence without the transport your song is not played. So please check this out. Otherwise it is important to clean the head and check if your amplifier is working. test for voltage and audio tone. if not confirmif the audio amp is faulty and replace. go into the menu and set the playback speed to normal,not fast or slow,if its a tape machine,set the speed using the small switch on the side that says 2.4/1.2
