My sony NWZ-E445 is stuck on home screen
I have the same problem here. Looks like the cause is permanent bad sectors in the flash chip, unfortunately there is no fix because it lacks wear leveling (cheap junk chips). If you can rewrite it at a low level there is a small chance it may recover, maybe try and find the _WP pin and bypass it as this works for unformattable pendrives as well.

How Do I Fix My Sony MP3 Player That Froze & Won't Turn On?
Sony Walkman MP3 players, like most MP3 players, can occasionally freeze up and stop working properly. Fortunately, there are two simple ways of resetting the Walkman system. The first method takes only 10 to 15 seconds to complete and is an effective way to troubleshoot most technical problems you may have with your Walkman. The second method, unfortunately, may take several hours; it requires you to allow the battery to drain completely. Whatever the problem is that's causing your MP3 player to freeze, one or both of these methods should clear it up.
Instructions
Things You'll Need:
* Paperclip
* Walkman MP3 player charger
Reset Button
Straighten the paperclip and set it aside for now.
Locate the reset button on your Sony MP3 player. On most models, it can be found near the volume control mechanism.
Insert the end of the paperclip into the reset button and hold it down for three to five seconds. When the screen flickers, you'll know that the MP3 player's system has been reset.
Remove the paperclip and wait for the system to reboot.
Battery Drain
Turn on your MP3 player.
Let the battery's life deplete. Since the system is frozen and no music is being played, this will take longer than usual.
Check that the battery is completely depleted. Sometimes the screen just goes dark during this process, but the battery is not actually drained. You can check this by pushing buttons or trying to power up the system.
Connect your MP3 player to its charger and plug it in to a power source. Allow the MP3 player to fully recharge.
Power on the MP3 player. The system should be operating normally again.

Hi loreo88...
Go to Device Manager
To get to Device Manager you will:
Right click on My Computer>Properties>click the Hardware Tab>Device Manager.
After you are in Device Manager look for your MP3 player or Unit.
Here you should see no "Yellow" exclamation points.
If you do they they are telling you that you have a device conflict.
If you currnetly have your unit plugged in, you may notice the "unknown device" which would be your Player or Unit.
If you unit has an exclamation point by it, then you will need to click on it and delete it.
After you remove all devices with conflicts then click on refresh and search again for your MP3 player/Device.
The computer should install your device this time and solve your problem with connection of the MP3 player/Device.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up.
When I plug my player
Go to My Computer , right click to get properties. go to third tab hardware and then device manager. Go to very last Universal serial bus controllers. Delete them all . and restart your PC or laptop.
This way your windows will install fresh USB drivers automatically.
