These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. I Think that the video is not passing through the tv to get to what you call the lamp. If I am surmizeing correctly ,you have a projection type of tv. since you have a screen raster, you are not getting the video signal through to your circuit board.Im not really an expert any more because I graduated from electronics school in 1968, when transisters were just begining to come out in tv sets and intergrated circuits were not yet invented. there were still vacuum tubes and tv repairmen in those days.anyways, here is the trend of society in 2013. No one fixes tv's any more because every one wants the latest & greatest with all the bells & jingles. and tv repair is more expensive now due to not many customers and lack of any competition.them tv repairmen that are left,have no competion and ask more $ for their services.You going to have to like you old tv an awefull lot to spend $300.00 or so to get it fixed.100.00 more gets you almost any 46 or 50 inch lcd tv around. especially if you check out the discount prices at walmart.com on referbished tvs

After doing a little research it looks like you can get the complete light engine for around $600.00Time to think about getting a new TV

the projection tv has more of yellow color than any other color.

optical engine issue, not an easy fix due to cost. Contact sony and see if they will comp you the part. Then have a local guy put it in for you

Lamp cannot be tested like a regular bulb--if set shut down you should have some kind of blinking light up front---lamp possible but not likely as it should trigger the lamp light.Either guess or call an expert to examine it.

The bad news is that the spots are pretty much fatal. the image engine is failing and will only get worse, the repair cost is greater than the cost of a replacement tv.

It sounds as if the LCD matrix has an issue most likely dust. Have you tried cleaning the Matrix itself? I can send you the LCD matrix cleaning instructions for a sony just send me a email at [email protected] and I can send them to you as a pdf file.

I would say you need to change the lamp, that is what the red lamp light indicates
