you should not use other peoples computers to charge anything that has a processor or memory like the reader does.improper ejection from a pc/laptop can damage the software or hardware on the device, unlocking the device on the pc opens up a portal so the pc uses the device. this can damage the device if its not ejected properly. i.e ejecting the device though the pc. this stops the pc using the device safely so you can unplug it. you probably have corrupted a file on the reader. Im not to sure if sony still do the repair software for a pc to fix the device they used to on windows 7, if they still do it might be worth downloading the software and seeing if it can fix the device. all the best in your problem.

sound to could a lot of things ... it could software issue or the ram or hard drive error that might make the system freeze up or lock up doing certain things. if you did all the hard reset and everything means all the junk was removed and you starting with like new reader..... but it had issues still... most companies have 1 year warranty on the product.. but you had it for 13 months and it has gone past.. only thing i can tell you might need to replace it with newest version 2017 to 2018 might be coming out now or soon WILL be that was way better than the one you got. you did all the things i would of try solving the problem but still had problems...i hate to buy something cause cost money i (me) would just have to face it get a better one do a lot research it to see how well went for other people. i hope this helps ya you did all the right try make it work. now it is all up to you on what you want to do.

you may have to re download the operating system from sony and reinstall it yourself. unless its covered by a warranty.

Hi Jimswings,This just indicates that the ebook reader is still authorized to the previous user. Luckily, you are able to de-authorize it so it will erase all of the previous user's information and you'll be able to authorize it for your use. I've provided the steps below to de-authorize - hope this helps (this is done via the Sony eReader Store when connected via USB). Once complete, you can then go through the steps of authorizing your reader to you and transfer books!To de-authorize the Reader device If you provide the Reader device to another person, you need to de-authorize it from your account.

1. Turn on the Reader device, then connect the Reader device to your computer using the supplied USB cable. "Reader" appears in the Source view.
2. Click "eBook Store" in the Source view. The View area is switched to the Store view.
3. Click "My Account," then follow the store instructions to de-authorize the Reader device.

Maybe you have a borrowed book from a public library. Try the following:

1. On the upper right corner click on the "List View" button (the one with horizontal lines)
2. Check the name of the expired book and you can delete by giving a right click.

If the ebooks are all from the Reader Store, then Adobe authorization got corrupted. Try the following:

1. Sign in to your eBook Store account
2. Click "My Account" at the top of the page
3. Click on Manage / Rename Devices
4. Click "Deauthorize" for the computer you are using
5. You will be automatically logged out
6. Sign back in

Check on your library if the problem persist.

Hi jaimbry!

To unlock the Reader you will need to do a "Hard Reset", unfortunatelly this will delete all content on the device.

Here are the steps:

1. Disconnect the Reader
2. Hit the Reset button at the bottom of the Reader
3. While the reader shows 'Opening Book...' press and hold the 'Back' button and the 'Volume Up' (+) both at the same time until reset all appears
4. Once you do that you will get a confirmation saying that all content will be removed you just tap to accept

Did you set a code, or were you going by the factory default (which is 0000)? If you set a code and can't remember it, you will need to restore factory default settings. This will essentially wipe out your current ebook settings and start again. This can be done by Settings > Initialization > Restore Defaults on the device.

What you need to do to be able to transfer the data properly, you will need to make use of external device like usb cable or flash drive.

What i mean is that you can only transfer the book with this means.
