SAFE MODE:

1. Place you finger on the on/off sensor leave it their until you console turns off then take you finger off the sensor.

2. Place your finger back on the on/off sensor leave it their until you hear 2 consecutive beeps then take your finger off.

3. Once the safe mode screen comes on select the option PS3 SYSTEM RESTORE.

NOTE: A PS3 system restore will delete all data except the OS. I recommend backing up your console onto a USB flash drive if possible.

To upgrade your hard drive you will not need to mode the system. I know the system should support the 500gb drive. As for the 1tb drive it may work but it depends if the system has support for a 1tb drive. Sony may have not added support for 1tb drives to the PS3. hello buddy...its easy to fix your problem........my advice is to follow the instructions given in the repair guide which is available on net............ this is easily fix by using repair guide...........i also faced similar problem like you.....................so dont worry...........all the best buddy

Go to PSN on your pc and you should get more options to reset your password using your DOB and your E-mail address. if not think you might have to do a reset on the ps3. make sure you back it up first.

Make sure the ps3 is off (red Light) and hold down the power button until you hear 2 beeps and release. There you go, hope that works

This doesn't help much but I have the exact same problem and I KNOW it is not the disc. We have two PS3's. 1st one is a 120g and the 2nd is a 250g. We bought two disc, one for my husband and one for my son. Our 120g reads and plays both disc perfectly but when we put either one of the disc in our 250g we receive the 80010514 error. Neither disc will play in the 250g and both play perfectly in our 120g. We have tried everything Sony has told us all the way to the complete hard drive restore (the 14 hour one) Nothing will make it play. It recognizes the game and allows us to see backround game picture with option to start , get info, or internet search but when you start you get that error every single time. Like the guy above everyone of our other games and blu-ray disc work perfect. Playstation sent us our box to send in for repairs today so we will see what happens but from the research we have checked our guess is 1 of 2 things. Either there is some type of bug with the 250g not being able to run this specific game OR this could mean the blu-ray reader is about to go out but has not yet. I say this because I read something about Black Ops running faster and harder in the drive than other games because of some type of smooth texture graphics type thing. Not sure exactly what all that means but something about running the disc harder than other games. Kinda makes me think blu-ray is on the verge of going but who knows. So far I have only found others with the 250g having this problem. Luckily it's still under warranty so it's in Sony's hands now. Just hope they hurry and have some answers.

maybe when u first got the ps3 u did not sign up for the internet connection correctly. this happened to me to. go to setting, internet connection, then click on the fourth one i think

As you using the WiFi the connection may be not clear which causes this error.
Try following things 1. enable Priority and Vlan in my adapter properties. 2.Check whether the firewall in your router is enabled.Disable this and check it. 2.Not download on the background.Download normally, it takes time but may solve the problem. 3.Check the below website and they given some steps to fix this error
