My emachines desktop ET1161-07 is randomly playing a high-low beep

A virus check might not get all malware. Download Malwarebytes free and do a scan with that. Check the add-ons installed in you browsers and get rid of superfluous or strange ones. Use msconfig to check which programs are loaded at start up. Uncheck unnecessary or suspicious ones. Good luck.

I have an Emachines ET1161-07 which freezes at the E logo. the only way to even reach the BIOs is to remove and replace the CMOS battery; doing this only works once and then the computer freez

This might be a dodgy stick of memory or memory slot. If you have more than 1 stick of memory, see what happens if you just use variations of just 1. Maybe try disonnecting all drives except the one you boot from. And, not sure exactly what you mean by works once and how far it gets after removing the CMOS battery. But does it get far enough to boot from a cd? If it does, try getting hold of a AVG rescue disk this will run a pre-boot virus check which may clear the problem if you're lucky. Obviously you would have to use a friend's machine to burn the disk. Unlikely, but could be a failing powers supply. Borrow one and try it instead. Otherwise, it really sounds like a terminal motherboard issue to me. Godd luck.

Why cant i find (e machines ) listed in my programs under the start menu ? Is there any where else to go ?

Are you expecting a folder or program called 'e machines'? Many machines come with manufacturer branded bloatware, and many users uninstall this stuff to make their machines run better.

EMachines running XP. Computer kept shutting down

Most likely a hard drive problem. When you get the flashing cursor, it indicates a lack of an accessible Operating System. But, if the drive was good you would get a boot failure indication. I would try booting with an XP disc and look for the HDD (or try F2 when you boot) to get to the BIOS and look for the drives there.

Reset password emachine

You can remove or change the Window's User or administrator's password. You need access to a computer with Internet access to download the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot up the laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CD which contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removal program. Click on one of these links to download HIREN'S BOOTCD :- http://www.hirensbootcd.net/ http://67.20.82.163/

I disconnected the PSU tohave it checked out and now I can not remember what plug goes in which socket.

You can't really make a mistake here. Usually if it fits it's ok.Your biggest plug probably has 20 or 24 pins in it. The extra 4 pins may or may not be attached to the remaining 20. This plugs into your motherboard in the only place big enough to fit it.There is another 4 pin that will probably plug into the left of the CPU fan.All the others can plug into your hard drives & optical drives in any order.

Where plug power switch motherboard

Its usually two pins marked PWRSW (Power Switch) or something along those lines. This may help you pinpoint it (red circle).6_19_2012_10_15_29_pm.jpg
