Kenmore Washing Machine fills with water then just stops

The symptoms you describe are typical of a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually located on the right hand side under the cabinet. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the right side of the wash tub opening. Make sure the lid strike is still on the lid and intact, first. Then, check the mounting screws that hold the lid switch in place (two screws along the tub rim on the right hand side). Often all that is required is to tighten up the mounting screws and this will realign the lid switch where it can be properly activated by the lid strike. If the lid switch is broken, you can find a replacement at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and look under the "Top and Cabinet" heading for item number 11 for the lid switch and item number 20 for the lid strike (if needed). If you do not wish to order online, take the part numbers provided by Sears and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. These are common parts that most will carry in their store inventory. The following link explains how to replace the switch:

This is a very inexpensive repair that you can easily accomplish on your own. I hope you find this information helpful. If you require additional assistance, please let me know.

PS This is a common problem experienced by this line of washing machines. To prevent future failures, do not slam the washer lid or place anything heavy on the lid. Repeatedly slamming the lid to get it to work, or manipulating the timer can also cause more potential problems.

Kenmore 70 series suddenly leaking?

Don't just check the connections. Pull them off! The chances are there is a cracked end area or a tight bend that caused the crack that needs to be found.

Washer wont start, where are fuses I keep reading about?

Probably not a fuse on the machine. Troubleshooting guides always say something like, "check fuses, check breaker" meaning to check for power to the machine first. It's the first thing to check when diagnosing problems. I own a laundromat and had a normally very reliable machine that did everything right but it would not spin. I checked and rechecked everything and at some point it would run again and the next day broke down again. This went on for a couple months. Eventually i put the machine "out of order" and it sat for a week like that. Through trial and error, flipping the breaker on and off it became apparent that it was the breaker causing the problem. When i investigated i realized the 220 breaker had simply pulled away from the bottom and was no longer properly making full contact. It had enough power to perform all the functions but not enough to spin. After reseating the breaker the machine has been trouble free. If i'd checked that first instead of thinking the machine had plenty of power because it seemed to be doing everything else correctly i'd have saved a lot of time and frustration. But enough about my life lessons. Does your machine have any power at all going to it?

Clothes still wet after washed

There could still be water in between the drums. Have a look at the filter, pump and all outlet pipes for a blockage. the excees water that you have when you have clothes in will be what's left in the clothes, wih the machine empty you may just be seeing what shows above the inner drum.
