Clothing stuck on agitator with top loading washing machine

Dear Whitworth,

please rate this solution if it meets ur needs, else choose fixya...

The agitator's movement back and forth is important for the cleaning of your laundry. If it doesn't function properly, your clothes won't be as clean as possible. If your agitator does not move, moves only in one direction or its movement is very weak, you will probably need to remove the agitator. Furthermore, in order to inspect the tub for leaks, the clutch assembly, the splines, or to remove the spin drum, you will have to remove the agitator.

The agitator is fastened to the agitator shaft and its movement is driven either by splines or a simple clutch assembly. The splines are usually plastic or rubber nubs on a cylinder that fits over the agitator shaft. If the nubs wear down, the shaft will not turn properly or it will turn weakly. If the agitator is moving in only one direction, the likely cause is the clutch assembly. The clutch has dogs that depress and pop up with each turn. If those dogs are worn, they will not engage properly and the agitator will turn only in one direction.
Various makes and models differ in how the agitator is removed. In some newer models, the agitator just lifts straight up and out. However, in most models you will have to do some combination of the following steps. First remove the fabric softener dispenser, if any. It should either lift or screw off. Next remove the cap. It may lift off, screw off or failing that, it may need to be pried off.
Beneath the cap some agitators are secured in place by a bolt. Use a socket wrench with an extension to remove that bolt. Some Maytags may have a screw near to the bottom of the agitator post that must be removed. Now try to lift the agitator straight up, possibly with a little back and forth rocking motion. Use caution when pulling, the agitator may come loose suddenly and hit you in the face or send you flying backward.
If the agitator is particularly stubborn, you can loop some rope under one side of the agitator at the bottom and then up over a broom handle. Now loop it again under the other side of the agitator and back up to the broom. Brace one end of the broom handle against the top of the washer and lift up on the other end. Double check that you have removed anything that may be securing the agitator in place. Do not use too much force or you may damage the washer cabinet, agitator or injure yourself.

Have a kenmore washer and I have to run everything

If the washer doesn't reach its proper spin speed, the clothes may be too wet at the end of a cycle. Check to be sure the load is properly balanced and run a spin cycle again. If the clothes are still wet, you may have a worn clutch.

Washer leaking from bottom

Hello
Welcome to fixya.
I'm Huuum and happy to assist you,

You said, your washer started leaking from the bottom after you moved it outside with a dolly you cant tell where it is coming from.

I had a client the other day with the same problem and it ended up that one of the water supply tubes were loose underneath.
And only needed to be tightened. Now you may have A hole or crack in the tube too!
So inspect it when you tighten it. You will need to people to check this!
check if you fell or see water from any other parts when you inspect below!
Be very careful and do not inspect the washer alone.
make sure the washer is turned off and unplugged before you atempt to do anything with your washer.
Let me know what you find!

How old is the washer ?
Here is an interesting report I just read!!!!!!!!!!

Repair or replace?

When to pull the plug on your old washer

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your washer,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your washer is under warranty or less than four years old ,
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that washers under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your washer is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new washer.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive washer
eight or more years old.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of washers you replace are likely to end up in a landfill.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to help!

Please remember to leave a rating before you go!
Thank you,
Huuum

I have a kenmore 70 series heavy duty plus. my model number is 82372110. my washer will fill with water but when its time for it to start to agitate it drains the water then fills it and drains it the

Sounds like the main dial is gone on the top control panel. How a washer works, is the water level switch ( the dial that allows you to select the amount of water you want to wash your clothes in) sends a signal to the main dial, when the water level is full to turn on the agitate and the water to shut off. But it is emptying the water instead, so the main dial is skippiing the agitate cycle. If you take the back panel off the top control panel, you will see a mechanism behind the main dial. That is probably what needs to be changed. It costs anywhere from $120 to $180 for the part. You may want to invest in a new one instead but replacing this part should fix your problem as well. It is about a 2-3 out of 5 for someone without experience to fix. Not hard. Have you noticed any whining or abnormal mild grinding coming from the dial itself? This may be a clear indicator that the dial is on its way out.

Will not drain

This could be a bad lid switch. it can cause the drian and spin from occurring. A blocked pump could also cause no drain.

How do I troubleshoot if My kenmore washing machine fills with water and then stops

It is more than likely the lid switch. Most modern machines will fill with water and then wait for the lid switch. If it is bad they will just sit there.

Why won't my washer Do any thing in any cycle. Plug and breaker are ok.

Make sure the water supply is properly connected and open. Could also be a loose connection. If it is new, call the store. Hopefully it is still under warranty. Do not attempt to service it yourself, because that would void the warranty.

What makes the drum spin?

There is a motor on the bottom. You can see it if you lay the machine down. The motor has a belt that attaches to a transmission. The belt could be loose or off. The transmission could be bad, or the spindle into the drum is stripped.
