Magellan roadmate 1440 fatal error

Same has happened to my gps unit too. The best bet thing is to contact Magellan and they will advise you to send the unit in for replacement with a refurbished one. or get a new one. I am still waiting for mine and as of date, nothing yet. How is it that their updates caused the fatal error? Anyone??

Magellan Roadmate 1440 certainly dead

Hi onestrategy,

These are tips I have used and given others about this series Magellan units. Make sure you have external power hooked up for best results.

Magellan RoadMate models 1340, 1440, and 1470 are normally reset as follows: The reset button is located on the right side of the unit. Press a blunt object like a long-shaft ballpoint pen or a cut off toothpick into the small hole and hold for approximately 15 seconds. The unit should do a fresh reboot. Sometimes these GPS units can be reset by holding the Power button down for 10-15 seconds to completely shut the unit down. Then, do the same procedure for 10-15 seconds again, to power it back on. Also, here's another procedure you really only try as a last resort, if the unit is on, but acting up with various menus and functions. Use this very carefully... While on the main Menu Bar at "System Settings", tap the left corner twice, right corner twice, left corner once, and finally, right corner once. You will see a 'Hidden' menu with a "Reset for first use". Press that option and the unit will perform a hard reset. Hopefully, you can continue all you setups from this point. Also you can download a complete manual from this link: http://www.magellangps.com/assets/manuals/Magellan_RoadMate_1440_EN.pdf The manual won't tell you all these little tricks, so it might be a good idea to make a hard copy of these notes (in case you ever need them again...lol). I hope this helps. Please let me know how it turns out, and contact me if you need further help. Regards, Bill

Magellan roadmate 1440 froze in the first window , with the little clock at the bottom

Most of these devices have a reset button on the unit base. It looks no bigger than a pin head and is usually recessed. Turn on and take a straightened paper clip or cocktail stick, press into and keep pressed the reset button for a slow count to 15. Release and then let the unit go through its reset procedure before pressing anything else.

My gps is complite frosen

HelloIf you cant access even its menu, and all are fully frozen out, you have to contact the authorised service center to set it to its default stage. If you can access its menu option, you can set it a factory reset option there will make the set right. It is best to contact the service center, so that they can reinstall the software to it with a latest one. OK.
