There is a button on the motor head you can press. Press it then press the button on the remote 3 times and try it. If not try it again. Genies are bad for not coding in the first time. Make sure there are new batteries in it. Thanks BB

i buy a new battery for my genie gitc390 garage opener but still doesn't work, the red light is on when i press the button. what's the problem?

Usually on the backside of your opener you will see some dials( for adjusting up and down force so don't mess with them) in the same area you should also see a series of tiny, usually white, switches( dip switches ) with numbers. You will notice that the switch positions vary, some will be up and others will be down, that is how the code is set so that the opener recognizes your remote( inside the battery compartment of your remote are more dip switches that are set to the exact same pattern, hence they communicate with each other) The mathematical odds of this are really high, but it sounds like you and your neighbors dip switches are both set to the exact same pattern/code. One of you will need to change the position of your switches on both the opener and remote. Please post if this is the case as I am really curious/ will be amazed if this is the case:)
