You should have a "margin " adjustment on the typewriter. Just narrow the current margin

hit margin release

check the bottom left slider switch is not on PS, should be on 10 or 15.

you need to relatch the printwheel push it forward until it clicks

Press margin release key, move carriage using backspace to where you want the left margin to be and press left margin set key. Repeat for the right margin, use space bar to advance the carriage and press the right margin set key instead.

Check the printwheel for any broken or bent spokes. vertical lines means the wheel is between letters so either a problem with printwheel or something preventing wheel from turning normally.
