Turn off the power. Turn it back on again and listen to the sound of the carriage moving. When you hear it then pull the mains lead out the back. the carriage will now be unlocked and there should be no resistance to you pushing it into the centre of the machine. If it is jammed at the left end then its possible that one of the cartridge locking arms has popped up and is fouling the case. A bit of jiggery poo with a screwdriver should push it down while you try and pull the carriage to the centre.

not sure about this specific model. However, on the loading platen you should see a diagram of a sheet of paper with the top right corner turned over which indicates the paper should be face down. If it doesn't have this diagram you should assume it is face up.

I had the same problem after replacing the print head. I removed the ink cartridge and then unclip the two metal two clips by the side that hold the print head. Then I used WD40 to spray through the ink holes until the clear liquid comes out from the print head.Then I replaced everything back and start the cleanning process, do a few test prints. It works ok now, no more Machine Error 41. Therefore, sometime the problem might just be clogged pin heads!

Error 41 means there is a major problem with the printhead, usually
requires a print head replacement.
My advice is to take it to a
Brother service centre while if it is under warranty.
If it's out of warranty they are usually a throw away job, the heads cost as much as the printer.

Sorry I know what it feels like, just have a go and see what you can do, clean the heads and so on.

This is a mechanical problem with the printer head it will need to be repaired.

Very likely cause by window vista security. Reduce the security level and check your window security setting.

Check whether there is any paper stuck inside.

Very likely you have some paper stuck in the printer. Try to lool for it and remove the stuck paper

Press print button. Choose replace ink. Ignore this two steps if the display on your printer is Colour Ink is Empty.
Open cover. Press the round side of the ink cartridge holder arm and the holder will pop up. Take out the ink cartridge. Put in the new cartridge and pop the holder arm back by pressing it down.
Remember to remove the seal below the new ink cartridge before replacing it.

Try releasing the two metal clips by the side that hold the print head. Take out print head partly and try removing the black cartridge again. Hope this help

I had the same problem with a Brother MFC3420C after replacing the print head with a new one the same error 41 occured 4 weeks later.

I finally fixed the problem (see photo's) and sent the parts back to Brother :-)

Don't buy Brother Inkjet technology its all ****!.

Their laser technology seems to be much more robust and reliable, have had a Brother HL-1440 since 2004 and its still running well.

Hello :

Check the ink cartridge first . If it's not empty then pull it out and shake it strong [ not so strong ] . Then take a brush and wipe it . After that take a hair dryer and focus cold air on it for 5 minutes .

warranty then it is cheaper to purchase a new, non Brother model. If you have been using non-Brother cartridges or refills, they can have too much water in them and it erodes the print head after a while. Usuall y just after warranty has expired!
