Is there any chance you may have somehow inadvertently changed the top thread or bobbin tension? Did you try rethreading your machine? I use only old machines so this may not be much help in a computerized machine.

possibly the needle swing bearing is a bit gummed up so not swinging fully when the gear is directing it to, could be in need of a good clean and oil. Other option is to set it to a widest zig zag, left needle position, and manually push the needle bar, (not the needle itself) to the right, then let go and see if it moves back fully to the left. Do this several times and see if it frees up. Old oil inside if left can go thick and gummy so it may still need that service.

He may be referring to the bellows perhaps, its the part inside on the right where the foot control air line connects in, they can fail and there's no parts available new from the factory now as the Swiss manufacturing factory closed down. But could try to repair it by using a rubber type adhesive if the bellows has a hole. Other option is find a parts machine that's still good. the carina is a beautiful machine and there's owners that keep theirs going.

You need a generic low shank walking foot - the swiss part numbers won't help as there's nothing coming from that factory now, it closed in the 90's sadly. And Swiss Tavaro never made a walking foot, dealers just sold generic ones that would fit. On some models you will need to take the bobbin extractor out of the way so the back of the foot will have room behind. sewingpartsonline dot com may sell one.

Should be a slide at the rear of the free arm of the machine, return it to the normal stitching setting, then start sewing and they will pop up.

invert the open press on a heat proof surface, so that the heating shoe is on the lower area and the wooden board is above, balance it on a towel or similar so its stable as it will be sitting on one of the upper handles. Now plug in and turn the heat up. Use a protective glove like oven mitt, the shoe is VERY hot. Rub over the surface with an iron cleaning stick, let it heat up and smoke (do it in a well ventilated area), then rub off the residue with a big wad of rag taking care not to touch the shoe. Alternatively theres a cream product called iron magic, will do much the same thing. The last option which works on irons, is a panadol tablet, but you need to hold it with tweezers and rub over the baked on gunk. Keep cleaning and rubbing off until you've removed the burned on material. Use a rajah or pressing cloth when ironing anything with a decal on the front, or using press to apply interfacing.

remove the needle plate and the bobbin, there's two spots marked with red, in centre of the bobbin case place a drop of good quality sewing machine oil, and also to the left on the case, beside the tension dial. A drop in both, then run the machine slowly for a minute until the oil has spread through the innards. You can also remove the top cover but this is not covered in the manual as there's the recommendation in the manual to have your machine serviced annually. However, it can be done, unplug, then undo the two screws on top which hold the top cover on. Push down the spool holders, then wiggle the top panel around the lifting handle so you can slide the top panel vertically to the back around the handle. Then look down and oil on the needle bar bearing, turn the flywheel towards you to go through the stitch cycle and you will see the bearing coming around, drop of oil onto it. DONT oil on the right side near the friction drive and motor, just on the left area, metal on metal moving parts.

There is insufficient information. Does the needle move when you turn the hand wheel. If it doesn't, the fly wheel has been disengaged. (This lets you wind a bobbin. However, if the bobbin winder pin has been returned to the left position, the winder isn't engaged.) This is controlled by the knob in the center of the hand wheel. Hold the hand wheel with one hand and turn the knob towards the back of the sewing machine. If the fly wheel is engaged, then the problem could be the motor or the pedal rheostat. First DON'T use it if it is smoking. There is a serious risk of a fire or electric shock!! The inside parts of the motor are badly worn and need to be replaced or rebuilt. You will need to take it to a specialist to repair this as it is NOT safe to use until you do repair it.
