I cannot thread the machine.
Specifically, I
make sure the flywheel has been turned to where the needle is in it's highest position. Take the thread through #1 (machine should be labeled) and that should be a metal "notch" that holds the thread underneath to guide you down to #2 and if I'm not mistaken the thread guide for #3 is where you are having trouble. If your needle is in its highest position, then the metal guide inside the machine slot will also be at its highest position. Just take the thread back up, pull it back towards the back of the machine straight up and down in a 90 degree angle. When you pull the thread back, it should go through the slot opening. Once you have pulled it all the way back it should catch on to the metal mechanism in that slot. Then you pull the thread back down and continue on with steps 4 and 5 (threading), just look for the numbers on the machine...
The machine is jammed
1)Firmly and sharply rotate the hand wheel to see if you can get the sewing hookto break the thread. If a couple or three sharp push/pulls don't do it, go toplan 2. If it does, go to step 3.
2) Open your manual to the section on changing the needle. Locate the needleclamp and loosen the needle. Rotate the hand wheel to raise the needle clamp tothe highest position. Open the bobbincase area and remove the bobbin case (if it's one that comes out)or the bobbin if it's a drop in bobbin machine. Pull on the fabric and needleand cut all threads and fabric that you can get to. Sooner or later you'll getit unjammed enough to get the bits out. Throw out the damaged needle. Go tostep 3.
3) Open your manual to the section on cleaning the machine, and do so. Brushand vacuum, not compressed air. Take the needle plate off so you can get allthe bits around the feed dog area. Reassemble.
4) put in a new needle, right way around, making sure it's fully up in theneedle clamp when you tighten it. Because you've had a jam, you need to turnthe hand wheel in the direction that makes the feed dogs feed fabric from thefront to the back. While you're turning the hand wheel, you're going to watchand listen for the needle to hit anything. It shouldn't. If it does, it needs atrip to the sewing machineshop. If the needle doesn't hit anything, rethread the machinefrom scratch, step by step, following the instructions. Make sure you raise the presser foot when threadingthe top; make sure you lower the presser foot to stitch.
