Husqvarna Designer I - Page 4 Questions & Answers
Still having with husquvarna designer I sewing machine. Tried new needles, changed stabilizer, tightened tension and loosed tension and still it is wrapping around needle plate and bunching underneath
Check bobbin case for loose threads in spring area that could be causing bobbin not to hold enough tension on bobbin thread. You can check bobbin case tension by using your needle plate. Holding bobbin case in your hand, insert a bobbin and thread it through the spring as usual. On the end of the bobbin thread, tie your needle plate to the thread. Hold case in your hand side ways so that thread travels downward with needle plate and thread trails downward across the case. The case should be perpendicular to the table top or floor. The weight of the needle plate should be so that the thread does not travel down unless the bobbin case is shaken slightly. The thread should then travel down slowly but stop once you hold case steady. If this is ok, check top tension. Turn on the machine. Lower the presser foot. With needle threaded, pull the thread the needle. You should feel some resistance. If there is none. Raise the presser foot and brush out any loose threads that might be caught in the upper tension disks. Many times, loose threads can get caught here that will keep disks from closing completely.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

Designer 1 bobbin assembly loose
If the bobbin winder spindle is loose and flopping around in the opening in the front of the machine is has come out of the frame that it should be mounted in. Operating the machine with loose parts inside can be risky for the machine and the operator.
Don't take a chance on causing further damage to the machine. The bobbin winder can be replaced without too much trouble and is relatively inexpensive.

How do I replace the main spool holder?
Replacing the spool holder requires removal of the front cover (which basically requires removing all covers). Unless you're an avid do-it-yourselfer, you would be better off having it done. While it's not a complicated job, you have to do it with great care so as not to damage wiring harnesses, gaskets, etc. If you tackle the job, get a service manual and make sure you have the necessary tools. You most likely will have to get a replacement spool holder beforehand.

Designer 1 general disk error
First try a couple of different disks to make sure the disk itself is not corrupt. If this does not solve your problem then unfortunately the disk drive will have to be replaced. A new one may no longer be available but many Des. 1 owners have upgraded to USB, (which you should also consider doing) so some workshops may be able to supply you with a 2nd hand one.

How do you remove the rose sewing machine case
That's a tricky fix. I recently fixed one (I'm a Service Tech). The spring is wedged into the front cover in the housing. The sewing head has to be removed to access the area. Suggest you take it to an Authorized Viking Dealer to have the work done. How to open fixed screen? on Designer 1
I would check the Touch Screen first. Your Owner's Manual tells you how to calibrate the touch screen from the SET menu. However if the touch screen isn't working, you can't get to the SET menu. Suggest taking it to an authorized Viking Dealer and they would be able to quickly determine the solution. You can find the nearest dealer by going to the Viking website - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us website and click on 'Locate a Dealer'.

Sorry no, there is no Undo. However, an Authorized Viking Dealer Service Tech and check the timer on the Service configuration of the machine. It is not affected by the Timer Reset.

Bobbin thread not cutting
With the bobbin case out of the machine, touch the cutter button. Do you see the cutter arm move from left to right and then back left. If not the cutter arm is out of place. If it does it is something else.
I usually check two things:
1 - your cutter blade might be missing or dull and needs to be replaced. I would not recommend doing this yourself unless you are very good.
2 - many times there is lint or loose threads around the cutter in the area to the left of the needle plate that needs to be cleaned out. You can remove the cover to this area by first removing the needle plate and bobbin case. Then the cover is accessible to pop off by sliding the tip of a small screw driver under the cover at the bottom right corner of the cover. There should be a little opening. Carefully pop the cover off but be careful that the blade mechanism does not come off too. With your finger carefully hold the silver metal blade area steady and pick out the loose threads/lint from around the copper looking metal part. There is velcrow on the tip of the copper metal part so be sure that you don't remove that too. That's what holds the thread for the blade to cut it. If velcrow is missing, or the silver metal part is out of place that could be the problem also.
I recommend that any repairs/service be done by an authorized Viking dealer. You can find a local dealer by checking the Viking website at
http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us and going to the Locate a Dealer link.
Good luck
