Pfaff Hobby 1142 Reverse stitch lever twisted doesn't work
Take it back to the Dealer.( He probably has a guarantee on the work he did). Let him show you how it works. If he won't do this then it is definitely time to find a more reputable dealer. If you paid for a repair it should have been repaired.

Machine stops sewing when I hit a thickness
it may be that your motor belt needs tighening or the belt may be damaged - you can check belt and adjust tension yourself once side cover is removed.
if you are sewing thick seams and the needle is resting on the seam as you begin to sew you may have to help the machine to get started. if the fabric is not thick it must be belt tension.

2056 the understitch is loose. Is this a problem
Sounds like a threading problem. Thread the machine all the way to the needle but not the needle eye. Then pull on the thread and lift the presser foot up and down. You should have tension when it is down and no tension when it is up. If this is the case try sewing, should fix the problem. If this is not the case your machine will need to be adjusted buy your pfaff dealer.
Hope this helps

The best I can say is to change all your threads to different colors and get light colored material.
Start with tenstion for all set to N - normal and experiment from there. Change one thread's tension at a time, sew a long strip and check out both sides and adjust as needed.
Remember to start with new serger needles and a oiled machine.
I'm not an expert - I just have had a serger for 15 years.
Pfaff hobby 1142. only goes one way, does not
it sounds like the buttonhole mechanism is seized up or gummed up with old grease. try following the linkages for buttonhole mechanism or button to see you can locate the stuck linkage.
otherwise it sounds like a tech job.
