Simplicity Celebrity S210 Mechanical Sewing Machine Questions & Answers
I have a brand new
I would take it back to the vendor where the machine was purchased. Very likely it is still under warranty but do not wait too long.
Get a straight stitch
Your tension shouldn't need changed when you change the length of the stitch. Start at C-D for a start. Use rags to test. Your stitch length is chosen by the slide handle on the bottom. By moving to the left your length of stitch will increase and opposite will decrease the length. Anyway, your tension for the fabric may need to be set with a test piece. After that your chosen length shouldn't need any change of tension.

I need to know how to change the tension because
There is a tensioner nut on the machine. You have to loosen or tighten it to change the tension of the top thread to match that of the lower thread. In your case you must loosen it. It is a hit and trial process and hence will take some time and effort.

I sounds as though the needle is not properly installed.
Replace with a new needle. Loosen the wing nut so the needle can be easily inserted into the holder as far as possible, with the flat side of the needle shaft facing the back of the machine.
