I am having trouble getting the bobbin to function properly during sewing.
It could be the top thread is the problem. Might try removing all the thread. Consult the owner's manual for threading instructions. RAISE the presser foot BEFORE threading the upper thread so the thread will seat properly in the tension disk. Re-thread from the beginning carefully following the instructions--do not miss any spots or thread guides.
If top thread is still creating a mess of loops under the fabric, try tightening the upper tension. The tension is ideal when both upper and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

If you do not have your user's manual, you can download a copy free from the Singer Sewing Machine site. Then take a look on Page 112, and it will show you how to put it back in with drawings.

My sewing machine keeps getting jammed when

Here are a couple of things to try.
* Un-thread your machine and remove your bobbin. Clean any loose thread or lint out of your
bobbin case. Re-thread your machine, reinsert and re-thread your bobbin.
* Change your bobbin
There could be a nick along the edge of your bobbin spool that’s catching your thread as you
sew.
* When you start to sew a seam, grasp the upper and bobbin thread tails. Hold them back
and out of the way as you sew your first couple of stitches. This will keep them from getting
caught in your machine.

Is it a three or four thread machine?
A three thread has little strength used as a seam.
On a four thread,basically, it is a tension problem. You need to ensure that the presser foot is in the up position before threading. The correct path is followed for all threads. You are using good quality thread. Reset the dials to 'normal tension' #3 or 4 .... then slowly work your way from there. The manual should offer advice on which tension to adjust to correct a particular problem.

Can't work lever to raise foot on Singer sewing machine
Presser Foot Release Lever:
First, check if the presser foot release lever is functioning properly. Sometimes, it may be stuck or not engaging correctly. Make sure it moves freely and isn't obstructed.
If it's not working, try slackening the presser foot tension using the dial on top of the machine. If that doesn't help, you might need to adjust the presser bar slightly.
Presser Bar Adjustment:
If the presser bar was loose to begin with, completely slacken off the pressure.
Put the presser foot up using the lever, then slacken off the screw on the bar and adjust the presser bar as needed.
Handwheel Stuck:
If the handwheel is stuck, it could be due to issues with gears, cams, or other internal mechanisms.
Inspect the machine's casing or access panel for any signs of damage, such as broken teeth on gears or misaligned cams.
Thread Take-Up Lever:
If the take-up lever isn't moving up and down even when you manually turn the handwheel, check the hand clutch.
Tighten and adjust the inner portion of the wheel on the right side of your machine and the hand clutch.

My Singer 312 won't go back to a straight stitch. Any ideas? TIA

The needle and hand wheel on my singer 140q are both jammed. There were no issues with the bobbin or case, no jams there. I can still wind a bobbin on top but once I switch it back to sew the needle and hand wheel are still stuck. No busted belts either.
