I had a one hook up on it and the whole blade
place the short blade on the bottom over the oblong piece then place the larger blade on top and screw back together, if there is a piece of foam inside make sure that is under both the blades and around the oblong piece (refered to earlier) which is sticking out of the top of the unit
How do I change my blades?
unscrew the blades and replace with new ones, alternatively oil the blades that are already on the clipper each time it is used. You will be surprised at the amount of hair clogged up on the inner blade when you take them off

Ths will adjust the blade depth. It sounds like the blades may be set too far back to cut your hair, this has to bring the 2 blades together so you have much less free edge on one side, so what you do is slide ths blade by adjusting the handle and bring the blades to just where one side is slightly shorter than the other less than 1 cm. The settings 1-10 are for wet and easy-to straighten hair. Like hair that is a little thinner or almost straight.
The settings 11-17 are for damp hair that is about average thickness.
The settings 18-23 are for hair that is thick or wavy.
Lastly, the settings 24-30 are for dry hair that is harder to straighten.
So, the higher up you go, the higher the difficulty the hair is.
Hope this helps! :]
