IBM thinkpad R60 battery won't charge

Brad,Inside the laptop located on the motherboard, is the power circuit section. This section has where the DC Power Jack harness plugs in also.[The DC Power Jack on the laptop is where the AC adapter (Charger) plugs into. With this model the DC Power Jack is connected to a harness, which plugs into the motherboard ]This power circuit section of the motherboard has Power MOSFET's.Used to control, and detect power.1) Determines when the Battery needs a trickle charge, or a full charge.2) Determines if the laptop is to run off of the Battery, or just the AC power. (Actually it's AC converted into DC)A look at a basic ThinkPad R60 motherboard,http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages/showimage.aspx?gid=1485479&image=476280920&images=476280920&formats=0&format=0Looking at the top/left side you will see the white Socket M processor socket,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_MUp above it's right top corner is a white connector, and where this plugs in,http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-Thinkpad-T60-T61-R60-DC-Power-Jack-NEW-Original-/350346851420Immediately above this white connector looks to be two Power MOSFET's.This is an example of a Power MOSFET,https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:oER5NNz8cwcJ:www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/FD/FDS6675BZ.pdf+Fairchild+FDS6675BZ&hl=en&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEEShOhWPjm_M-ROHme4iEMrztCTOd-28jNiy1hVLQQh_VOyv8zcXEVDB_iTQA6MuZO88UmRkDgjyW9j4CP2aIJ-4DS-h6JNM3lvxldeApQeecmz_DADCw1s7tmNLxfPknqX14SZP6&sig=AHIEtbS_rYUAeo_8rB9YHkW05ZjLqeH4JgThe bent legs on the sides are called Leads. Due to their shape they are referred to as J-leads.Note that there are 8. 4 on each side. This article details the same problem, only using the HP Pavilion dv6000 and Pavilion dv9000 series of Notebook PC's, as an example,http://mayohardware.blogspot.com/2010/04/important-parts-on-dv6000-and-dv9000.htmlFor an example ,this is a place to buy a Fairchild FDS6679 Power MOSFET,http://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=FDS6679The Fairchild Semiconductor FDS6679 is now deemed to be obsolete, and the FDS6679AZ is used to substitute.Cost? $1.01 USDNow you know what Power MOSFET's used on your motherboard look like. See if any are burned, or bubbled. As you can see, yes, they can be replaced.Have a shop do it? 'Mom and Pop' repair shop maybe. The larger stores do not have tech's with the skills needed, or they are instructed to just replace the motherboard. (Probably try to sell you a new, or used laptop)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uiroWBkdFY&feature=fvwrelA Soldering Station is nice to have, but a qualified tech can use a low Wattage soldering iron, and a beveled soldering tip.(Plus technique, Desoldering Braid {Solder Wick}, Rosin Core solder and flux, damp sponge, magnification, plus patience )There is one more small electronic hardware part that can be the cause of the problem, or part of the problem;Ceramic CapacitorLook back at the Getting in Too Deep article, and view the second photo down, showing the Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Industries AO4407 Power MOSFET.View the small rectangular shaped object with the wide dark band on it, to the left of the AO4407.This is a Ceramic Capacitor. There is one above it, and another one above that one. The top one has another ceramic capacitor to the right of it, just like all three below it.(Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor / Surface Mount Device / Surface Mount Technology)Just examples,http://www.mouser.com/Passive-Components/Capacitors/Ceramic-Capacitors/Multilayer-Ceramic-Capacitors-MLCC-SMD-SMT/_/N-b2cj?P=1z0t6fgZ1z0x451Will include link to free Service Manual in added Comment. For additional questions please post in a Comment.Regards, joecoolvette

Ibmr60 gives dump error

could possibly be faulty RAM, try removing and reseating or try another stick. dump errors can be caused by many different things. the system could be overheating, a peice of software/driver could be incompatible/corrupted. try starting the system in safe mode, if you can it is probably a driver issue, you could then check device manager to see if there are any driver errors, you could also run chkdsk for hard drive errors
