My wife spilled coffee on her laptop. How can I clean the contacts in the keyboard

Try rubbing alchohal first. If they are too bad you will need to disasemble or replace the keyboard. The keys do come off on a laptop keyboard. But they are an absolute pain to get back together. You will most likely break some of the retainers along the way. I suggest purchasing a replacement keyboard.

Aspire 5535 making noise when booting up

After pressing the power button and initiating the bootstrap process, several different pieces of hardware in your computer are powering up which could be the cause of this noise. In a laptop of the make and model you're using I highly suspect the noise is emanating from the left side of the laptop, implicating either the exhaust fan's ball bearings or the main motor on the Hard Disk Drive (HDD). Acer laptops almost always have their Central Processing Units (CPUs) under the upper-left part of the keyboard panel, as seen from above. They also tend strongly to placing the HDD beneath the touch-pad portion of the "palm" panel, beneath the area just left of the actual touch-pad. Quite recently I had a client troubled by the same noise on start-up, and although it was an Acer Aspire E 15 (E5-571-33VT), they still had the same basic design with the HDD and CPU placed as I described above. That particular case of start-up noise turned out to not really be as much of a problem as an annoying false alarm caused by poor quality shock-absorbers on the HDD removable tray or housing into which the HDD is secured by four small screws. From this experience and from using a number of Acer laptops (and a similarly designed Compaq Presario C700) personally over the last few years, my best recommendation is to ignore the noise so long as you do not experience automatic shutdowns due to the CPU overheating or the accumulation of bad sectors on your HDD. My computer is working but the power icon has cross through it but appears to have power

In terms of charging your laptop's battery and damaging a relevant piece of hardware, tripping over the charging cable from the brick to the laptop is the Number 1 cause. There are three frustratingly weak points along that same section of the charging cable going from the brick to the laptop. I bet you dollars to doughnuts that at least one of the following was damaged when you tripped: the connection between the cable and the brick, the small section of cable leading into the male plug which you insert into the side or back of your laptop, the copper pin inside the plug's sheath, or the actual receptacle on the laptop's motherboard into which you would normally insert the charging cable's plug. The last possibility listed is the most expensive to fix, because the piece in question is soldered onto the motherboard and has to be completely replaced with an entirely new housing and guts if any part of it is even ever so slightly damaged. This part costs $90 and up for computer repair stores large enough to negotiate bulk discounts with the manufacturer. Once you have the part, if you are willing to shell out the cash, you will need to almost completely disassemble the laptop's insides just to get access to the part in question. It is no simple task, because you'll be working your way into the nitty gritty guts from underneath the keyboard and from the underside of the laptop. Once you have removed the old, damaged piece, you will need a quality soldering iron, extremely steady hands, and no small amount of skill in soldering with silicon wafers. A red "X" through the normally pure white battery icon in the system tray of pretty much all versions of Windows means that the laptop's main battery is not present, or if it is seated in the laptop it is not accepting/holding a charge. This almost always means the battery's spirit has already departed for the Great Bit Bucket in the sky, though in this case it could actually be a fault in the charging cables and brick. In the interest of clarity, please note that your laptop should operate perfectly fine without a battery inserted, so long as you have the charging assembly all ship-shape and plugged into a grounded outlet. In this case the laptop is instead drawing all current directly from the AC outlet. This is why, despite tripping on the cable and having a battery that might well be dead, everything is still powered and all lights are green and good to go. Given all of the above, what you really need are a spare charger and battery which you know to be in good working order so that you can actually begin the troubleshooting process. Finally, to piece it all together, I have seen and dealt with this exact same problem innumerable times, and through learning the hard way I have found that some laptop chargers can sustain damage, yet still power the laptop, but not charge the battery to prevent the mucked up charger from damaging it. The current directed to charging the battery does not pass through the internal power supply because the battery is normally protected by the charging brick, which converts the incoming current from AC to DC, ups the voltage and amps, and acts as a line conditioner/surge protector. I hope something in this answer helps you find and fix the problem. If only I could inspect it personally, I could tell you right off the bat what major malfunction you're facing. Laptop shuts down

Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power.
Remove the battery.
Purchase a can of compressed-air, and give your computer a "blow-job", to remove the dust, because the dust is acting as a layer of insulation, trapping heat inside your computer.

Reload the battery.
Connect the AC power.
Start your laptop, and check that the fans inside the notebook computer are pushing air out of the exhaust-vents. If not, the fan(s) have failed, and you need a professional computer technician to disassemble your computer, and fix the fans.

How do i get bluetooth working on my aspire5535

Activate the Bluetooth features of your Acer Aspire to unlock your laptop's wireless function. Bluetooth technology allows your computer to control and share data with external devices without having to use a connection cable or download drivers. In order to establish the connection with other enabled devices, you must first enable the Bluetooth antenna so other devices can locate your computer. Press the "Bluetooth" button found just above the keyboard. The LED above the button should illuminate. Click "Start," "Control Panel" and "Add a Device." Your Acer scans for other Bluetooth devices in the area. Click the name of the device in the window that appears, and click "Next" to establish a connection with the external device. Hook up to home pc

Today's laptops and desktop computers are more user-friendly. As more people start use computers, operating systems, software and hardware accessories are coming with better instruction manuals and streamlined interfaces. Here are a few basic steps to hook up your computer no matter which brand you bought. Connect the power cable to the back of the computer tower. The male end of this plug is often on the computer, but it is recessed into the casing. Once this power plug is connected, you don't want to plug it into an outlet until the entire computer is set up. Attach the monitor cables to the back of the monitor and then to the back of the computer tower. This cable will probably be the VGA type, which has a wide set of prongs in the middle and two screws on the outside. Be sure to twist the screws in to ensure the cable has a solid connection. Secure the monitor's power cable to the back of the monitor and then plug it into an outlet or power strip. Attach the mouse to the USB port on the back of your keyboard. The keyboard then plugs into another USB port on the back of the computer tower. Turn on the computer and the monitor. If the computer powers up but the monitor doesn't display anything, make sure the VGA monitor cable is secured. If the status light on your monitor doesn't turn on, check the power cable connection. Check that the mouse and keyboard work once the computer turns on. Now you can hook up other devices, such as a printer or a web cam. A printer often can connect to a USB port and also may have its own power cable; a web cam usually just plugs into a USB or firewire port. b>

Buzzing sound in Acer Aspire 5535

I've come across this before and it turned out to be the soundcard driver. See if there's an updated driver on Acer's website.

Strange buzzing can also be caused by a stuck or damaged key. Does pressing ESC help at all?

Unlikely to be the hard drive. They crunch and grind but don't buzz, unless they're completely knackered, when they can give you a three-tone buzz sound and won't spin up at all.

Hope that helps,
Matt
