I have just bought a garmin nuvi 1300 and when turned it on the language is german or dutch. We need english but cannot figure out how to change to that seleciton. Help??

If its got a battery take it out to reset it. I would also connect to your computer to download more maps

A Garmin Nuvi 1300 that won't start, freezes on 'loading maps,' or is acting erratically is symptomatic of having corrupt firmware.

To correct this, I recommend backing up your favorites, clearing all user data, and if it still is stuck, then updating your Nuvi firmware.

Follow these three steps to take to get your Garmin Nuvi 1300 running like new:

1. Back up your Favorites.
2. Perform a Hard Reset.
3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

To be able you register yourGarmin nuvi GPS, you need to have a Garmin account. Thereafter, you can proceed for the Garmin nuvi GPS registration. After you have registered, you will have to enter your Garmin account to be able to register your Garmin nuvi GPS.

When the link opens, Under language, select English and below, click on "Automotive" icon. This will proceed to the next page.

On top of "Username", you will see "Don't have an account? Create one". Click on the "Create one". It is underlined and typed in blue.

Now you are on the registration page. Enter your full name, e-mail address, username you would like to use and create a password.

After filling all the required information, at the bottom of the registration page, you will see "Create Account'. Click on and and registration is complete.

Further more, after the registration, you will need to update your map, follow the below directions;

1. Plug one end of the USB cable into your GPS and the other end into your desktop or laptop computer. The GPS device will load the appropriate driver automatically, and a message on your GPS tells you that it is connected to your computer via USB.
2. Open your Internet browser of choice and type in the following web addres: "http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27 "
3. Download the appropriate version of the software for your computer (Windows or Apple) and Install the WebUpdater by following the wizard (accept defaults).
4. Click "Start," "Programs," "Garmin" and " WebUpdater" to update your firmware and your maps. Periodically check and make sure your software is current.

Be more specific with the problem.

Check the power adapter for a crack or split in the wiring. It could be shorting out.

turn off GPS put your thumb in the bottom right corner and hold there while turning on the GPS. It will walk you though the steps to reset GPS to Factory setting. If it's not the bottom right corner try another corner till you get it.

The customer was not able to download the latest map. He can download it from Gramin website. Here is the link. He will download it and call back.

Mine does the same thing, after years of freezing heating and thawing in the car the batteries just won't hold a charge anymore.Getting a replacement battery would cost about $24 plus shipping.

Check unders tools, pick settings, them pick system. Make sure the GPS Simulator is off. When on it will tell you the GPS is off when you add an address, and ask you if you want to Simulate driving this route. This is on my Nuvi 1370T.

You can reset the unit by pressing the RESET button at its bottom. If RESET button is not found, slide the POWER key and hold it for more than 8 seconds, it will do the same.

I HAD A PROBLEM CHARGING MY 1300 GARMIN. I PUT A SCREW DRIVER BLADE ON THE TWO SIDE CONTACTS OF THE CHARGING CABLE AND TURNED THE BLADE TO SPREAD THE CONTACTS OUT JUST A LITTLE. IT NOW WORKS FINE

SEE IF THERES A PIN HOLE UNDERNEATH THE BOTTOM IF NOT PRESS AND HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR AT LEAST 15 SECONDS AND RELEASE IT RESET MOST SATNAVS

Either the voice file is corrupted or not selected.
1. To select a new voice:

• Press TOOLS (Bottom right corner of the screen with WHERE TO and VIEW MAP)
• Press SETTINGS
  
• Press LANGUAGE

On this screen there are 3 items including VOICE. Press VOICE and select ENGLISH if it's not already selected. If that doesn't solve the problem the English voice file is probably corrupted and needs to be downloaded again.
2. To replace the corrupted voice file:

• Download and install, to your computer, the latest version of WEBUPDATER from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27
• Connect your satnav to your computer and run the webupdater program.
  
• It will find any updates to the satnav operating system. Select all and install them.
• When the updates are installed webupdater will find optional updates including voice files. Select some of the English voice files and download them.

When they are downloaded safely disconnect your satnav and re-start it. You will then need to select one of the voices you downloaded as described in paragraph 1 above. This should solve your problem.

Hi, You should turn it off for charging. Don't leave it on. You might destroy the programing if you do.
