try to update your GPS through the Garmin web site. When all is said it's up the the state and county to keep their maps up to date. So blame them.

Try a hard reset to factory settings

It sounds like your nuvi would benefit from a simple screen calibration. You do this as detailed on page 47 of the manual. Since it is a very short procedure - I have transcribed it here for you.

1) Shut off the nuvi.

2) Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds until the calibration screen appears (White screen with press dot").

Simply touch the dot as it moves on the screen. You might consider using a stylus or other relatively pointed object for the most accurate results.

Hello,GPS satellite reception is best achieved when the unit is outdoors and has a good clear view of an unobstructed sky. The majority of the GPS satellites orbits are around the equator so if you are in the northern hemisphere, the best reception would be achieved with a clear southern sky.

Try doing a reset on the nuvi by pressing and holding the power button on for at least 10 seconds.
Installing and running the Garmin WebUpdater and reloading the latest update will resolve most issues.
Download and Install WebUpdater.

The password cannot be cracked. Garmin Lock is the system implemented into Garmin's to prevent theft. The unit has to be mailed into garmin to have it unlocked. You can call garmin customer service at 800-800-1020 to set that up. Option two is to take the unit back and try to find the person who sold it to you. Odds are the unit is stolen.

Please check the display settings, it can be set to day , night or auto in Tools>Settings>Display then Color Mode.

Leave the unit on the dash in clear view of satellites. It will take about 15-20 minutes to download all the data to reset the unit to the new location. If this works, please come back and rate our answer as this helps others with the same problem.

The reset will not unlock the unit.
Going back to the security location will unlock the unit but in order to reset the pin code, the original pin code must be input.
To unlock the unit, it must be sent back to Garmin.

Be sure to update the firmware by running the Garmin WebUpdater.
Download and Install WebUpdater.

It is not necessary to unplug the vehicle power cable as the unit will shut down automatically if the vehicle power source is not supplying power after the vehicle is turned off. If the vehicle power cable does continue to supply power, then a manual shut down can be done with the power switch on the nuvi but it is still not necessary to disconnect the vehicle power cable.

connect the 1390 to the computer with a USB data cable and go to www.garmin.com and register the unit.

You should try hard resetting it.

While it is off, press your finger against the bottom-right corner of the Garmin display screen. Leave your finger in place as you power the unit on.
Release your finger when the display screen asks, "Do you want to erase all user data?" Use your finger to tap "Yes." The unit will begin to reboot. Do not use the unit until the main menu is displayed. The reset process should take about 45 seconds.
