most shops will look at the set for a estimate fee---home call or house call is a waste of money--Base your decision on age of set, what it cost when new, and what estimate fee would be---general rule for me is if set can be replaced for say under 400 and potential repair could be 250 and set is 3 years or older I would replace it.Call around for estimate fees first---shop like you would for anything else---be aware some shops will not even open it but will shoot you a high estimate up front.

This is a common fault solution which can be checked and corrected by you assuming that there is no component failure . There is a high possibility that the components over a period of heating and cooling, tend to bring on a problem of dry soldering. So my advice is to check the set for some loose joints that have played on to give you these erratic shut downs or poor performance.

The best way to check for loose connections is to tap lightly when the set is powered on , If there is change while tapping then it seems that there are DRY solder joints. Remove main plug, the covers - with caution of high voltage, check for dry joints, use a good soldering iron to solder all suspected points.

Sometimes the fault occurs when the set warms up, if so you can simulate the heat using a hair dryer on the suspected areas, try with the power supply, distribution, Processor controller, driver controllers on the A/V related sections. Also the use a FREEZE-IT spray can simulate the components to cool and show up the fault.

Based on the above method you must be able to locate the area of fault and solder the sections. Sometimes large IC's- ones with more pins- tend to have drying in some pins and so cause faults related to the IC's protocol. Have a rough idea of looking into the areas to reduce the time of probing.

Have you checked to make sure that the scart lead is fully pushed in as part of the scart function is to supply both sound and picture.
If this is not the case - try a different lead.
Also check if there is a switch at the back of the TV marked Internal - External and make sure it is switched on to Internal or INT.
If none of this applies - then it maybe a failure of the Audio IC within the TV within the sound circuitry. In this case you would probably need to take it to a Technician

Menu-Features-subtitles, THEN CHOOSE 1ST SUBTITLE,

scroll through languages, until you reach OFF
also turn off analogue subtitles, cures it.

Have you done an auto-channel search?There will likely be 4 different setups which it will look for channels.With regular basic cable,you definitely should get something.On mine,for the 4 different setups,it has DTV,TV,cable digital,and I believe digital HD.You need to open the channel menu and get to either the cable digital or HD to receive channels.Let me know if you have done an auto-channel scan first,then I can guide you better from there.Greg

New TV? Are you absolutely sure it was not in a separate section of the box? Please recheck. If it is not there, call the store where you bought it and explain. In general the remote is packaged with the users manual and other paper work, or it could be ina separate place in the box. The store personnel will advise you what to do.

Check the tv remote for a button that said CC.Used this CC button turn all CC1.2.3 ...to off.These will stop all the tv close captioning functions.Or check the tv Menu goto Close Captioning 1,2,3..close all to off,turn off all the text 1,2,3...to all off too.

Go to menu audio section. Check if there is a feature that says 'speaker off/on. If there is, check if it is turned on. Other than that ask for a repairman to check the audio section of your unit.

realized it was the power supply going out in the tv so we solved it by tossing it!! :))))
