What would be the easiest setting to use for a beginner

The easiest setting would be the AUTO mode. In this mode the camera does everything except decide where and when to take the picture. You can also use the various scene modes depending on what you're taking a picture of.As you gain experience you'll want to use some of the other settings in order to take more control over your photography. I suggest you visit your local library. They should have some introductory photography books which will tell you when to use what setting.

Why the flash of the camera are not sincronize with imagine and sometime is shooting down when I shooting.

Your camera probably has a flash shutter speed, typically around 1/200 second, and if you choose a higher speed then only part of the image will be exposed.

Xd picture card will not click into place on Olympus e-420. Results in prompt "card reader error."

Are you sure it is a xD card and not an SDXC? Then there should be a little arrow, pointing in the direction it should be going while inserting. Try to eject the card and reinsert the card. If you never used a xD card, and nobody else ever tried to put something in the slot, the card should go in smooth. After placing the card, don't forget to format the card in the camera. e61b1b58-f622-43d1-8585-fe32b6db372c.png
